So here we are again. I know the problem has been flogged to death but I'm after a bit of guidance.

The car has manual air con. The buttons light up. If a positive is taken to the fan and compressor via a switch all works as it should. In fact - all the way to Portugal and back, so I know that the problem isn't a major compnent failure or a leak.

The gas system has been flushed, vacced and filled to perfection (I used to sell the machines) so I was wondering whether any of you knowledgable types out there could point a finger at the control relay or a break in the wiring and perhaps suggest a fault finding process or have a wiring diagram?

I have vagcom and no faults are present.

Many thanks, Craig

Hi

I had the same car and had a similar prob but a while ago now so trying to remeber what happened. when you turn A/C on does one of the cooling fans start or speed up? If not the relay controlling the fans may have packed up. It/they are located by the battery. One fan will run continuosly while the A/C is on and the second comes on as required. I replaced one of the relays and all was Ok.

Hope this helps

Tony.

No, the fans don't speed up nor does the compressor cut in without my extra assistance.

Would the relay going faulty stop the compressor firing up? I suppose it would otherwise the car would overheat. I can't say I noticed the relays. I'll have a look in the morning. Thanks for your input.
