John D Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Had my MkI for many years now (2.3 GhiaX) and have never much investigated if it has an alarm. I do get a little red light flashing on the door when locked, but in many years I've never had the alarm go off - which is unusual for me with cars! Can anyone confirm if I do have an alarm - and if so how I can test it - would just be good to hear it sound and know it's working if it's there...! Quote

Tried to open door but of course the levers are de-activated and will not open the doors until unlocked with remote. So with everything still locked I tried the ignition and to my surprise the car started. No alarms amongst any of this..... Something sounds wrong to me here....? Quote

gregers Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 try pulling on the bonnet latch/handle,get out of the car and lock it then open bonnet hopefully this should set the alarm off(if you have 1),if you take a look under the passenger seat you should find the central locking ecu/alarm ecu,iirc if you have 3 blocks of wires comming out of it then you have an alarm if only 2 then just an immobilizer.
