polski Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 hi, ive got a 51 plate 1.9 tdi, which has started to run on 3 cylinders only when hot and usually after about 12 miles.rac thought it was a sticking injector as it didnt show any faults. but when you switch it off and on, sometimes it clears the fault, sometimes not.there are no warning lights showing, so dont think its lambda. it seems to go into limp home mode, but its definately running on 3 cylinders, as opposed to just running seemingly without the turbo.it started off doing it occasionaly, now its every time you go out in it, its guarenteed to misfire. ive put a new fuel filter on, but its still the same.any ideas ? sepulchrave Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Sounds like a faulty unit injector as the RAC man suggested, it should be easy to diagnose which one is at fault and get it replaced although I recommend you get it done at an independant PD specialist rather than a main dealer. For gods sake stay away from ordinary backstreet garages, most of them view PD engines as incomprehensible witchcraft but in the current economic climate they may be tempted to 'have a go' and do more harm than good! It will still be moderately expensive to repair if a new unit injector is required since it is a VAG dealer only part and new bolts and gaskets will also be needed. Quote
seatkid Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Check the wiring loom to the injectors. Check the connectors are secure and clean. There is a post that wiring looms of a certain vintage gave problems of this nature and Ford issued a new design. Try a search. Quote
