familyman Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 In an effort to cure the Gals wayward fuel gauge,i have fitted a new instrument panel only to find my mileage has dropped from 123k down to 106k! ,i have disconnected the battery in case it needed a "reboot" this made no difference, (and strangely the radio did not need the code resetting?) any ideas anybody? jkspoff Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 Is it a new part or a 'recon part' ? Quote
familyman Posted February 15, 2009 Author Report Posted February 15, 2009 Is it a new part or a 'recon part' ?Advertised as a brand new part, and judging by the condition, i would say it is a new part Quote
Rallim Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) The instrument panel stores the mileage, so if its new it should state 0.0 miles. I think you can change the mileage with VAG-COM if it is within the first 100km. Like you say it seems a bit strange 106k comes up, but as the mileage is not stored anywhere else I guess maybe its not quite as new as you were led to believe, maybe its a return and somebody had already set the mileage. Officially once its been changed or has clocked more than 100km it cannot be modified, but there is software that can, VAG-Tacho springs to mind. I've been through similar experience with mine where the speedo kept failing, I bought an instrument panel off ebay but the speed indication was out, I ended up rescaling the speedo.... :16:   Gordon Edited February 15, 2009 by Rallim Quote
familyman Posted February 16, 2009 Author Report Posted February 16, 2009 Just got back from the ford main dealer, told me that there are EIGHT variations on a instrument cluster! and that the part no's have to match exactly,he did kindly offer to sell me the correct cluster at a bargain Quote
