Guest jus Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 picked up a 9/12 old ghia 130 bhp tdi today. Seeems a little quicker & quieter than my old 110 bhp zetec but wind noise noticeable round front pillar at speed. Is this door seal or simply that the engine is quieter so I hadn't noticed it before?? Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Suspect that it's a seal problem. I've not noticed any wind noise in mine (other than that generated by the occupants!) Quote
Dally Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 jus I think you may have a problem. Mine's been back three times for wind noise around drivers A pillar but to no avail.Just booked it in again today but got to wait till end of march for a courtesy vehicle. My previous galaxy did not have this noise. Ther is no noise around passenger A pillar. Quote
Guest jus Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Any idea as to the most likely cause? Is it door seal or poorly fitted door frame? Is it possible to adjust door fit? Jus Quote
Dally Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 jus There are mixed views on this. Ford thought that it was the door mirror - so they painted and fitted a new one - no cure. They tightened the door - no cure They played around with it a bit more - no cure I was at a vw dealer - they reckoned it was in need of adjustment but to tell you the truth, it looks true to me. They can't do it anyway because of warranty - I'd have to pay if I got them to do it. I'm pushing for them to change the seal - lets see what they do when it's next in! Quote
Guest jus Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Cured the wind noise by lubricating the door seal with silicone bases lubricant Jus Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Yet another case of incompetent dealers. Am I surprised? No. Quote
Dally Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Jus I tried that on mine but did not work. The problem is that when travelling at any speed, the air pressure inside the vehicle is greater than the outside air pressure. This causes the doors to push out and this effect will be greater the faster you go. The seals do have a bit of a job on there hands if they're to cope with this amount of movement. Quote
matt1e Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 I have been wondering about this in My 52plate alhambra !! lol Quote
Denis Posted March 27, 2004 Report Posted March 27, 2004 My new Gal also has this problem, wind noise from the drivers door- no problem on the passenger side. Quote
Guest Stompy Posted March 27, 2004 Report Posted March 27, 2004 Hi 01 Galaxy 115 1.9tdi Had the same prob with wind noise Lubed seals and flexed top of door in .No more wind noise at speed 60+ Quote
Guest jus Posted March 27, 2004 Report Posted March 27, 2004 how do you flex the top of the door in?? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 Open the door, wind the window down and then grab hold of the top of the door and try to bend it! :o unless your built like arnie you shouldnt be able to do much damage but you may be able to tweak it a bit to help it seal better! Quote
HJT Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 NO NO NO don't do that to the door. I had a new Renault several years ago that had the same problem and the dealer did just that, wound down the window and bent the frame in a bit. It cured the problem but 18 months later I had rust appearing where the window frame met the door because the paint had been cracked and water seeped in. They fixed it under warranty as the dealer had done the damage. I don't think Ford would be so willing to fix damage done by the owner under the corrosion warranty. Howard Quote
