RustyDN51 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Hi all, been a while since I've been here last (no problems to chat about lol). Anyway, it was coming up to my Gal's MOT and I knew it'd fail on the brakes, so rather than paying the extortionate prices everyone around leicester seemed to offer I decided to do it myself. Sourced the disc and pads all round for the measly sum off Quote
seatkid Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 1. Did you use brake cleaner (solvent), to strip off the protective oil coat on the discs before you fitted them? If not, you' ll have to strip it down and clean them, and the pad surfaces which may now be contaminated, so you will have to rub the pad surfaces down with emery cloth and wash. 2. Did you undo the bleed valves before you pushed the pistons back? If not you might have pushed dirt into the ABS block or "flipped" the seals in the master cylinder. 3. When you bleed the brakes make sure you pump lots of brake fluid (at least 200ml each caliper) through to flush the system, air can get in a long way. Quote

Is this some special 'brake cleaner' or just something like white spirit? 3. sappers Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Dont use white spirit because it will leave an oily residue on the discs. use meths if you have no brake cleaner. Quote
