I think it would be worth keeping the car and getting a few quotes independent of the insurance company, its not that severe, source the parts from breakers and the whole job might not turn out that expensive afterall. I believe once you have a car you like and it works reliably most of the time then get it fixed when necessary, it'll be cheaper in the long run than buying a new one.

hows that for sods law,so sorry to hear off your troubles,as others have said make sure you haggle over the price they give you,perhaps even saying how much you have just spent on her you never know it might help?
