Caff Posted January 17, 2009 Author Report Posted January 17, 2009 OK. I have been surfing and not had a lot of luck with ringing round the breakers. I reckon the part number is 7M3 919 283. Our local VW dealer says that comes up on their database as being a control unit. They quote Quote
gregers Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 check on ebay, and dont forget to to type in alhambra and sharan. Quote
Caff Posted January 17, 2009 Author Report Posted January 17, 2009 I Googled the part numbers on the unit had a hit on a German site for Volkswagen parts with some very useful pictures and part numbers for the Parking sensors and all the bits involved. Google translated it all for me and I am happy that I have the correct number. Gregers, I started by searching ebay and they have nothing at the moment, that's why I asked for help. Quote
gregers Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 im sure i saw some on there today, think it was past 3-4 days though. Quote
paulh Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Damn. If this thread had been started 4 days earlier I would have saved Quote
Caff Posted January 18, 2009 Author Report Posted January 18, 2009 Look at the FAQs. There's s good description. Basically you remove the rubber door seal at the floor on the passenger side. Remove the plastic trim, lift the carpet. The wiring loom runs along the side of the floor pan there and the pipe is there too. We must have had half a gallon of water and screen antifreeze. We cut out the soundproofing and the carpet where the joins will not be seen and it's going to take a while to dry. The parking sensor unit doesn't sit fully in the water but further back under the seat but every time you break when driving some gets back through the gaps in the metal work that holds up the seat. Our unit was obviously fried.I'd also like to know if this unit does anything else. I'm assuming it doesn't. I started a new post with another problem that I assume isn't related Quote
gregers Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 there is loads of posts on this subject,im sure that on the mk2 the unit was moved up under the bulk head,so im assuming you both have the mk1,iirc it controls central locking/alarm and im sure it has been said before that if you catch it in time you can dry the unit out in the airing cupboard,im sure its also been said that someone CAREFULLY drilled some holes so it cannot fill up with water again BUT CHECK THE THREADS BEFORE ATTEMPTING,also mentioned that when putting back put some washers underneath the unit to lift it up a bit,do the research before you go ahead with anything.hth. Caff Posted January 18, 2009 Author Report Posted January 18, 2009 Mines a mark 2. The parking sensor control is still under the seat. We wondered if it would be worth sealing all the gaps between the front footwell and the rear footwell with silicon sealant so that the water doesn't seep/slosh back from the front. It's such a silly design. The circuit board is so low that it would sit in the smallest amount of water. When we get the new one in I'll report back any modifications we do. Quote
Caff Posted January 24, 2009 Author Report Posted January 24, 2009 Put in the new module and used nuts as spacers to raise it off the floor level. The cables also now have a "drip loop" so that any fluid on them drips off before entering into the module. Now I have a different problem. When selecting reverse gear the rear sensor gubbins makes a different note to before to tell me that the sensors are active. The front sensors are OK but the rears are mucking about. The two centres are working but the outside "corner" ones aren't and there is that same strange note. The front sensors make the old familiar sound.Tomorrow we shall be swapping sensors around to see if they are faulty but was wondering if anyone has had similar problems. It seems strange that the system was OK before the flooding incident and now two of the 8 sensors are not working. Any ideas? This whole saga keeps making me think that there ought to be rules about putting electrical equipment in a known flood plain. Quote
Mirez Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 The modules can be programmed. There are 6 (or 8 - cant remember) differnent notes that can be used for front / back warning so its possible your new module is adapted slightly differently however its more likely its the warning note because of system failure - caused by the two sensors not working... It is odd that both would fail at the same time but then with an electrical issue its also possible its taken them out when it blew - swapping them over is one way of testing, VAG-Com would also tell you, including the reason for the fail if its grounded / shorted etc. Quote
mikej Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Just repaired my rear wash pipe ( came apart at fitting due to pressure build up when the rear froze ) carpet underlay soaked but parking module survived , funny thing is its been making strange or at least different noises than normal although it still works ? stupid stupid idea , you'd think for the price of the pipe they could have made it one piece throughout the cabin  . Carpets now drying out with good old news paper as mentioned on here , i too am sure i have seen a parking sensor module on ebay very recently . Quote
SGB Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 I too had the rear wash pipe separation in the footwell. Fixed it with a jubilee clip. Spotted the soaking wet carpet in November 08 but only fixed it last week after it has dried. Problem now is my parking sensors do not work. They stopped during the spring/summer of 08. Found the control unit under the seat and I can see a slight trace of water having been near the control unit but its dry now and looks like new. Is there anyway to test if this unit is the problem before I fork out for a new one? All the fuses are ok and as the unit stopped working it sounded like a throttled duck for a few weeks, flashed a lot and died. Quote
