mumof4 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 i know there are posts on this subject but i am very short on time. on way back from hospital this eve, i heard a loud bang and car was vibrating, if i accelerated, i would hear a bang and have vibration. limped home, got home, checked engine and it rocks backwards and forwards. bolt sheared i am guessing. i have to go back to hosp first thing to collect my daughter who was admitted with hyperglycemia, been diagnosed type 1 diabetic. she is home finally tomorrow if she is stable through the night. can i drive the car with a sheared bolt and engine as it is.i.e. moves backwards on acceleration and vibrates against the bulkhead. i have to be at hospital by half 8 in the morning. no point me fixing it as salvage peeps want the car, and insurance wont pa=y out till it is collected. i am searching for a very cheap car at mo as i dont have a lot of money to get a decent car till i get settlement. i am creeping ever so quickly towards the edge at the moment, and i need to know if i can drive the car as is. i cant afford the 80 quid in taxi fares to pick her up and get her back home as she is in lincoln county hospital. so please, help needed asap, can i drive, if i do, what more damage could be done, will it get me 80 odd miles before giving up the ghost..?? Biscuit Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Hiya Mazif the bolt has sheared i wouldn't drive the car as more damage could be caused elsewherewait till daylight to see full extent of damage Quote
gregers Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 well i drove mine round for a few miles when mine sheared,NOT IDEAL but if you can keep the revs down AND NO HARD accelerating and ease the gears etc then it can be driven as i say NOT IDEAL,the damage that can occur is manifold/exhaust/maybe cat????and possible shaking the engine to bits??thats what i was told anyway.good luck, have you not got a kindly friend/neighbor who could help you out with the journey? NikpV Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 since its being written written off I wouldnt worry abou it - IIRC an aircon pipe is likley to rupture as the engine moves - so what  Quote
mumof4 Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 if it breaks ac pipes/any hoses.. not botherd. i just need it to run. the car is written off and due to be collected by a salvage company from wolverhampton in a week. all i need is the car to run, air conditioning i am not bothered about. just as long as it gets me from a to b. seatkid Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Phone the hospital and ask about the availabilty of Patient Transport Services. It may be down to the particular hospital but I know my local hospital will provide transport for this kind of situation. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 i never even thought of that..... Quote
mumof4 Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 Nothing hun, i cant apply for it till i have a set in concrete diagnosis. Quote

mumof4 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Report Posted January 4, 2009 shes home now.. her blood sugar is down to 11.4 which is a lot better than it was before.by eck it was fun driving the car!! acceleration when first pulling off is practically non existant, also in second gear is a very slow... took a couple of mins to hit 25 mph.lol thats with foot to floor, once get to above 30 its a bit friskier, and a lot better in 4th and 5th gear, which i get to eventually.Pick the lucida up tomorrow evening, there isnt any rust on her, drives well, immaculate condition inside and out. Scorpiorefugee Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 I reckon someone has got a little doll with your name on and keeps sticking pins in it. I hope you do better with your Lucida. I looked at some of those before I settled on the Gal 3 1/2 years ago. The seating layout seemed useful for taxi work but not for use as a van and the single rear door has a lot going for it with children. I did test drive one and it felt really solid if a bit agricultural. My problem was that the seat design seemed to be aimed at diminutive Japanese and at 6' I found that the head restraints came to the middle of my shoulders. From what I can remember they have a good reputation but there are a few things which need to be checked regularly. There is a standard problem with some rubber bushes around the front end somewhere which can give a clunking noise on gear changes as I remember and there was something about the need to keep the cooling system fluids to specification. Also, the timing belt is a critical item so It might be a good idea to check when it was last replaced. I was advised to get it done as a matter of course and every 2 years/50K. I am told it is a much easier job than the Galaxy. I am sure that we all wish you better luck in 2009. Ron. P.S. I am impressed with your 'fix' on the engine mounts. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Report Posted January 4, 2009 aye, i will check on the belt, if it is every 50k miles, then it has another 19k miles to go before the next one if it was done at 50k.Gonna call it the egg mobile.lol. On test drive the gear changes were smooth and fluid, no clunks rattles or bangs. It has been kept in a very good condition. i will post a pic of the gal, and the nice bright orange ratchet strap holding the engine in place.lol.. its ace, though i do think something was damaged when it went. as revs exceed the speed. i haved to hit 4th gear to get to 30mph as the revs hit over 2.5k at 25mph in third gear. have to switch to second gear when i hit 10mph.!! As for the voodoo doll, i really must of pissed someone off in a previous life. not exactly a good start to the new year with the car, then vicky in hospital. she is doing really well, and has shown and educated the others as to what she has to do.Bless her. Scorpiorefugee Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Good stuff. It's amazing how kids cope with their problems. My work often takes me into a variety of care homes and I am always impressed with the way they just get on with things. Re the motor. You are probably aware that all of these were imported, usually with 30 - 50k and about 10 years old so the history is always a bit vague. I did do a fair bit of research on them but promptly forgot it all when I bought the Gal but I do remember that there were certain bits that did need proper maintenance. I am sorry that I cannot remember what. Yours will have probably come into the country about 4/5 years ago and sold for Quote

mk2vr6 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 I've just made something especially for mk2vr6..... Can you feel anything yet matey? well, yes to be honest! the pin in the knee is possibly the cause of the pain I'm feeling in my left knee, or it could just be the 30+ miles I cycled off road over the last couple of days taking it toll? or the tree I slammed into? or the bridge supports on the river crossing I clipped at speed? ....we'll never know?
