 :( how gutted are the family, weve just had to put our lovely dog down this evening she was about 13 years old,we rescued her when my eldest was 18 mths old(hes 13 in April) and she was roughly about 18-2 years old?

her back legs had gone and rather then let her suffer we took the hardest decision ever and said no more, well shes at peace now,and were all in tears, just thought she deserved a bit of a send off for her excellent temperament and obedience for all the years she gave us,

She looked like a beautiful dog, we have a Golden Retriever who is only 2 and growing up with the kids, she's a big part of the family. Sorry to hear of your sad loss.

thanx for the replys, kids have been quite tearful today think its finally hitting home that shes gone, its funny how you find yourself doing all the things you had to do when we had her, like making sure the gate was shut on the kitchen so she couldnt help herself to the contents of the bin  .it just feels so empty without her,sad git i know but its amazing on how much of an impact she had on the family.

Aww hun, i am so sorry... they certainly leave a void when they are gone. I had to make this decision many moons ago, but Dino was only 2 with a brain disease that gradually turned her very aggressive. Nothing could be done.

Its an awful thing to have to do, but sometimes we have no choice.

Feel for yer hun, and best wishes to the mob

I'm with SK on this one - I am sure that Gregers is upset and I do understand - but this is turning in to a mawkish breast beating session - open a section for this - it's obviously a winner!!!

I can still remember that awful morning when I went downstairs and found poor Fluffy the hamster lying upside down with all 4 legs in the air....... :D

Oh dear.....the memories are starting to flood back......... that summers afternoon when I reversed out of the drive over that 3 week old kitten who was sleeping by the tyre............ :D

If its any consolation Gregers, we I had our 18 year old cat put down 13 years ago, well....the guilt never goes away......the wife still calls me a murderer to this day

And those 4 baby starlings that I drowned still haunt me........ :D

Gregers we had to have our two border collies put down and I thought it wouldnt get to me,

but it bloody did big time,

so,

we went out and got two more border collies and now the little darlings can open doors eat my hose pipe while i am trying to was the car and with all there antics we love to bits.

One loves being in workshop with me and the other is football mad.

Kind Regards

Alan
