Muesli Camel Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions re the brakes on my 51 plate MK2 TDi 115 SE. I have had the car for 18 months and have always felt the brakes were not brilliant. Nothing came up at MOT time but it feels to me like too much effert is required on the pedal. I have checked the brake peal by putting my foot on it and starting the engine and it drops as it should so there is assistance there but if the car is moving very slowly and I apply pressure it doesn't seem to react instantly. I am tempted to change all of the pads and discs in case there is some contamination but I thought I would see if any one had any other suggestions. Any suggestions will be greatly received. Thanks in advance for your time TMC. Edited November 19, 2008 by Muesli Camel Quote
mikej Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 If there is no visible signs of wear on the pads/disks the cheapest and first thing i would do is have the brake fluid changed and have the system bled properly as it may be nothing more than old fluid and/or air in the system ! :D Quote
insider Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 The brake fluid is recommended to be renewed every 2 years, regardless of mileage. Do you know when it was last done? Quote
andymet Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 HiCheck the vacuum pipe between the brake servo and the vacuum pump. it will probably be cracked at the take off point at the back of the engine on the battery side. Costs about Quote
ianyerman Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 found vacume pipe on mine to be split at servo and take off point. Quote
