English Rose Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Hi all can anybody please help me with the ongoing fault that i have on my Galaxy 2005 (55) Ghia. My Air con unit in the vehicle flashes every time i start the car up. I have a couple of friends who have the same car but their units do not flash. I have taken the car to my local ford dealer who checked it out and said that it is normal for it to flash. It never used to flash and was just wondering if anybody else has had faults with this? cheers lynne Quote
mikej Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Firstly its not normal to flash it will only flash when there is a problem , i would say the most common reason for this is your aircon is low on gas so may need the gas topping up (regassing) you may have a possible leak problem , is the system performing ok ???i'm sure a few others on here would have had the same issue many times , mine flashes on startup now but i have no gas in the system due to a knackered aircom compressor . :D Quote
swifty Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 I to have the same thing happening with my aircon unit at startup. Had it sealed and regassed a few months ago and it blows nice and colddoes this mean I need to have the Gal put onto vag com to clear some sort of error in the system? Quote
mikej Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Sorry Swifty i couldn't tell you on that one . Mine when working correctly or once regassed has always stopped flashing straight away , the only time its started to flash on startup is when i have started to lose gas and the pressure drops . The flashing stops after a few seconds and the aircon would still work to a fashion but not great , when the system is leak free and fully gassed is works fine and doesn't flash at all . i have replaced a u/s condensor and compressor this year and both caused the aircon unit to flash . Maybe you both have a iffy aircon unit or as you say maybe its just an error code stored ??? Quote
djx Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 as others have said, it works on the pressure in the air con system, if the gas is low, then the unit will flash, once filled it willno longer flash. if the dealer told you it is normal then they are plain and simple lying, was it them that did the work before on it, would you trust them now you know they are lying to you, speak to the manager there and get the job done properly. English Rose Posted November 18, 2008 Author Report Posted November 18, 2008 I have had it back to the ford dealer who have replaced the air con pump/unit under the bonnet, didnt fix the problem, they have just replaced the pressure switch... this also didnt work. I have had the system completely drained of gas and purged then re-gassed. It stopped flashing for 1 day then started again.I am at a loss now as to what is wrong with it. Surely if there was a leak it would have showed up when the system was purged. Quote
mikej Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 (edited) leaking , leaking , leaking , simply take it back and tell them to fill / regass the system taking note of how much gas/pressure is in the system then inform them you will return a few weeks later and they can recover what gas is left in the system , i bet you it will be less than they put in . One of the biggest issues is a leaking condensor on the galaxy, very simple to check . What model / year gal do you have ??? Its not normal for the display to flash........... I would also add that i would not let a ford fitter fix my kids bike , well all the ones i have met anyhow ! Edited November 18, 2008 by mikej Quote
searcher Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Dont let Ford rip you off for anymore money. They really havnt got a clue.If you want to spend main dealer money then go to Vw Try contacting an Air Con specialist. There are lots of mobile ones about who will come to your house. Quote
mikej Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 (edited) Not trying to hijack your post but on the subject of Fords ripping you off these are the latest offerings from my local dealer when asked this week on the price of a service :A INTERIM SERVICE , Edited November 18, 2008 by mikej Quote
