Pete267 Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Hi,I have a 1.9td 130 bhp Galaxy with 55k on the clock. At last service I asked the garage to change the aux belt & tensioner as the tensioner was making a noise and seemed to be jumping about. All was ok for a week or so and then the same problem came back. The garage had fitted the tensioner but said the belt was a patent part and MAY have been substandard so I brought another belt from Ford direct. The ford belt was fitted and the car was ok for about 2 weeks and then the problem came back again!. The problem is noticable at low rpm when the power steering is used (eg. when parking etc). Any ideas ? Thanks Quote
gregers Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 im tempted to say, take the car back to whoever done the work and say what the bloody hell have they done to it? did you ask them to fit a so called substandard part?sounds like a bloody big cop out to me. Quote
Pete267 Posted November 15, 2008 Author Report Posted November 15, 2008 after the patten belt was fitted it was fine for a week, when I took it back he checked it over with me there and the belt did seem ok. I suggested the ford belt and they fitted it for nowt and that was also ok for a while. Even now the belt seems ok. Just cant work out why its ok for a while then the problem returns Quote
searcher Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Its the alternator pulley, not the tensioner or the beltIt has a clutch fitted to it and its wore outThere is no need to change the whole alternator no matter whet the garage says, the pulley can be replacedDo a search on here, lots of info about it. smitch Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I had same problem with my Gal TDI 130 and had new belt and tensioner fitted. Same problem returned and I checked alternator pulley as per Littledaz test. Result was pulley seized. Tried to get just pulley changed under warranty but changed whole alternator and fitted new belt. Now running sweet as a nut with no noise and tensioner almost still on idle Quote
