alkesh Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Hi,I have Ford galaxy X reg 2001 V6 2.8. the problem I have is that the rear middle brake light works but the two sides don't.I have checked the bulbs and wiring and its ok. I do get a malfunction light on the dash and i believe there is some sort of switch under the steering column. If there is can anyone what its called and point me where i can get it or how much. Early response would be greatly appreciated as I going on long distance this friday. thanks Quote
edatelder Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) The brake light switch is mounted low down under the steering column and the "button" sticks out to push against the brake pedal arm. When you brake, the switch comes out and operates. You'll need to kneel down to get at it. But if your middle light is working the switch must be working. Have you tried changing one or two bulbs first? It's the easier job than changing the switch. Edited November 10, 2008 by edatelder Quote
insider Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 The centre brake light has a direct feed from the brake pedal switch so this all appears to be working OK.The left and right stop lamps are fed via the central junction box which also controls the tail and rear indicator lamps. Are your tail and rear indicator lamps working correctly? If not, then the problem lies in the central junction box.Otherwise, it's probably a wiring fault between there and the rear lamp units, most likely in the tailgate rubber gaiter. Quote
