Eddie Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 There are small panels on the corners of both sides of the rear of the pre 2000 Galaxy. They are below the lights and above the bumper. Are they glued in place or welded. I need to replace one as I reversed into the corner of a wall. If is difficult to replace I will fill the dent rather than replacing the panel. Thanks Eddie. Quote
Eddie Posted March 8, 2004 Author Report Posted March 8, 2004 The main dealer tells me it is welded so I will fill rather than replace. Any one had to change the rear corner lights on a pre 2000 Galaxy? I am assuming a simple job, am I in for a shock?Eddie Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Don't know about the lights. Good luck with the filler though. only had to do a couple of filler patches when a student, and I have immense regard for the "panel beaters". There is definitely an art to getting it smooth and with the right contours! Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 On pre 2000 models the panel is a welded part :( but not part of the rear wing good news is that the light unit is easy to remove :D depending on the side  drivers side is easier due to better access not sure of the nut size but there are three fixings that hold the light in place, one top and two at the bottom with these nuts removed the light unit just pulls out Quote
rwtomkins Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 while in that general area, does anyone have any tips for repairing a deep gash (pushchair injury) in the rear bumber, which appears to be made of plastic dyed the same colour as the main body panels? or is it a job for the body shop? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 A decent body shop should be able to plastic weld or fill a gash but for a decent colour match would be hard to get! i would think one of the mobile trim repair companies would be a better bet! some low life keyed the side of my parents astra  the mobile repair guy did such a good job that even they cant tell you where the scratch was :( so they had him back to fix the deep scratches in the bumper and again the repair is virtually invisable! Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Agreed- you need somebody like "Chips away" to come round and do a local repair. It may seem expensive, but if you take it into a body shop you'll get a very nasty shock at the cost of even small repairs. Quote
Denis Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 I had to replace my pre-2000 rear light after a similar mishap and it only cost about Quote
Eddie Posted March 9, 2004 Author Report Posted March 9, 2004 Agreed Denis, the light cost me 66 euro (44stg) which was reasonable considering I had to go to a main dealer as there doesn’t seem to be a cheaper non branded part available.Eddie. Quote
