tomy Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Where is the thermostat on a 1.9 tdi 1997 , in the tis cd it mentions taking of the power steering pump to get at it , this suggests its on the bottom hose on the engine is this correct ??? fraud quoted 45 quid for a new one . My problem is that the car takes ages to warm up and I thought it might not be shutting properly does this sound right or do they all take ages to heat up ?????? Quote
rowan Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 hello there just replaced my thermostat for the very same reason .....it sorted out the heating 100% .....yes the thermostat is located in the Exit housing from the engine block to the bottom hose of radiator .....bit of a pain to remove but can be done just one of the 10MM bolt heads you have to remove with open ended spanner one of those occasions when it seems to take forever as you only get a quarter turn each attempt ....but stick at it it does eventually remove /install regards rowan Quote
tomy Posted November 1, 2008 Author Report Posted November 1, 2008 Did you have to remove the power steering pump???? was it accesable from above or did you have to do it from underneath and take off the sump guard . Also how much was your thermostat , frauds quoted 45 quid???? seems a lot . Quote
chromedome Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Another reason for not warming up quickly is the aux heater not firing up. This heater helps heat the engine, especially this time of year. This is a very well known problem, try a search. Quote
tomy Posted November 1, 2008 Author Report Posted November 1, 2008 (edited) The aux heater wont affect my car as it doesnt have one  Edited November 1, 2008 by tomy Quote
