Eddy Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 If I leave my car unlocked and walk away it locks itself and sets the alarm. This appears to be useful, is it supposed to do this. The real problem however is that the alarm goes off all the time. Is there a sensitivity adjustment or something? Quote
MrT Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 My older (97) Glaxy GhiaX used to do this and it was worrying in car parks when I had left the family inside. The doors would deadlock then the alarm (additional factory option of volume sensing) would go off. They were trapped inside as all windows and sunroof were electrical and disabled and the alarm drawing attention to their embarrassment. Of course I was accused of locking the car with the remote key. The 2001/2 Galaxy does not seem to do this. Quote
ALARM MAN Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 You could do with looking into disabling this featureimagine on the motorway you go to fill up leave keys in and shut doorOh Bu--er We have GhiaX but no factory alarm This is a dangerous feature they should never lock on passive arming Is it a factory alarm or retro fit ? Eddy Posted March 7, 2004 Author Report Posted March 7, 2004 As far as I know the car is completely standard. I have only just bought it, but I have no reason to susspect that the alarm is not the standard fitment and it appears to be integrated within the car as one would expect in a factory fitted device. Richmond Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Is it really true that the car is supposed to lock itself when you leave it (presumably if you remove the keys from the ignition and open and shut a door?)? It sounds potentially extremely dangerous and almost inevitably exremely inconvenient; God knows how many times I'd lock myself out (I'd like to think that I'd learn after the first, but experience suggests otherwise :P ). I find it annoying enough that mine locks itself if I don't open a door within 30s of unlocking with the remote. Quote
_dg Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 I thought these alarms only armed the alarm, and not locked the doors, if you did not arm it yourself within a certain time of opening the drivers door. Quote
Dave-G Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 As far as I know, the car will only lock itself if you unlocked it and then failed to open a door....within a few seconds - so it effectivly RELOCKS itself. This could be a default setting that assumes an unlock command that didn't get followed up was a radio spike or somat :P none of my 3 shalaxies has ever locked itself, as I've discoverred some mornings when I find I hadn't locked it the previous night :P In addition, If you leave a window open, a passing vechicle can cause a rush of wind to "alter the volume of air in your car"....which is what happens if a brick or hand enters your car....in short it does what it say's on the box! :P Quote
wiggybn Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Two thoughts on this. I have come across aftermarket upgrades to alarm systems which cause a car to relock itself if it has been unlocked but then no door is opened. Is your Galaxy old enough (3 years or more, somebody please correct me if the figure is not right) to have the electronic module, controlling the alarm and locking ,housed under the front passenger seat? (In a cavity covered by a hatch between the seat runners) If so the module may have got wet due either to leaks, or due to valeters wetting everything. If this is the case there is plenty of comment on this in old threads on this forum. Good luck with sorting it out, whatever the cause. Quote
Eddy Posted March 9, 2004 Author Report Posted March 9, 2004 In response to the point above - "is the car old enough to have the alarm control module under the seat?". The car is just over 2 years old at the moment, but I will check out where the alarm module is. Does anybody know where the alarm module is mounted on a Jan 2002 Zetec? Quote
Mussey1 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 module was under passenger seat on pre '98 cars. everything is now located in or around the fusebox. Mussey1. Quote
