Just had a call from my wife...she has managed to trash the passenger door mirror (casing and glass). Before I call Ford...is it possible to buy door mirrors and fit them yourself? I guess I'm lucky in that its not an electric mirror (LX spec), but I dont know if any joints to the door control are broken at all. I dont know if you can buy the mirrors already painted?

Any pointers?

Cheers all!

The controls are all connected to the mirror so if the outside mirror is U/S then the internal controller will be also. On the plus side you can easily change them yourself, and a replacement should cost between

Peering at it in torchlight...the casing is cracked and split, the glass is gone cimpletely...but the inner control knob still works and moves the 'pad' that the mirror was attached to.

Will look up how to replace, as you say the problem is going to be the colour

cheers

In the light of day the damage to the mirror casing wasn't too bad, with a bit of wrangling its now sitting back on the black frame ok, so it looks like I may get away with just buying a new mirror rather than a whole unit.

It looks like the mirror just fits on the round backing with some clips, will do some digging...

Thats exactly how its held, there is also a large circular metal clip on some models. If the pads in-tact and ok then I would go to halfords or the like and just get a stick on glass bit for it

Hi everyone,

My first post.

I have owned a Mk1 Galaxy since 1998 and found this site first class. Helped me fix all the usual problems, wipers, wiring loom, relay 30 etc., etc.

Now I've got a Sharan SE 2004 which is superb.

My wife just collided with a van on a country lane and smacked the drivers door mirror.

All the elctric motors appear to work and the casing is cracked but looks gopod enough to live with. I've ordered a repacement glass off ebay.

What is broken completely is the clear lens covering the indicator repeater light on the lower side of the mirror casing. I suppose it isn't possible to buy a separate part? I don't want to buy a complete casing if I can help it.

Anyone know for sure?

Any help/advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi Mirez,

That's fantastic! What a great response !

I didn't know the Sharan shared parts with other VW models.

The price is still fairly low so I'll make a bid and if successful, I'll have a mirror as good as new at a fraction of the cost of a new part, (although with a slight crack in the casing which I can live with)

Thanks again.

Picked up a replacement in the local Ford dealers...just over a tenner. Clipped right on. Thanks!!

Now just have to sort that glow plug on the aux heater...
