Retrofitting Trip Computer

Having found a great bargain on a w reg mondeo , the only thing I missed was the trip computer. Does anybody know if the wiring is fitted and a trip computer can be retro- fitted ( along with any sensors ) I have heard that the cars main management system needs re-programming. Is this the case ?
