bazzoh Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 HiI have an N reg 2.0 galaxy. The other day all was fine, but when i started the engine again, whatever revs the engine was at when it was driving, it stuck at when clutch depressed. At first thought "sticky accelerator" but the revs do come down - in stages but take about 5 mins to go back down to normal idle speed (about 800-900rpm?). Ive been told it could be the air mass sensor - anyone have any ideas?thanks in advance!baz Quote
Stevoo Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Thats a weird one, i would guess its the TPS (throttle postion sensor), best way is to get the cars ecu read for any errors. One other thing could be your cruise control (if you have it that is) which may be affecting the throttle?!?!? mk2vr6 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Thats a weird one.... nothing weird about a possible sticking ISV <_< Quote
bazzoh Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 Hino aint got cruise control am afraid!ill throw it on my uncles reader this week and say what it says - as said its wierd especially given that the revs do come back down in stages...eventualy! dont know if its related but whatever it is that sounds like a hoover on startup(!) is sounding very wierd at the moment - hard to describe but sounds more like a drill or something! baz Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Not sure on this but I think I read somewhere that, on the TDIs at least, if the throttle sender fails the control system advances the revs to allow you to move the vehicle to a service point. Sounds far fetched but possible? <_< Quote
bazzoh Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 hi!nah dont think its that as it does drive normally, but when you stop and put it in neutral or even dip the clutch, the revs rise but then sloooooooowly fallta!baz Quote
sepulchrave Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Sounds like an air leak or a 'gunged' (technical term) up body/ISV. Clean up and check for air leaks with soapy water spray. Clearly the stepper motor is trying to compensate but the problem lies outside reasonable parameters, your Uncles reader will definitely throw a fault up. Quote
galaxy20 Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 get some carb cleaner on you ISV if it don't help at least it rules the ISV out of the equation. Quote
bazzoh Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 ok ta! ill try them tomorrow!baz Quote
bazzoh Posted October 7, 2008 Author Report Posted October 7, 2008 FANTASTIC!! thankyou all so much, we followed the instructions and the revs are now back to normal! so happy thanks! Baz Quote
