Manxman Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Sometimes when the heater is on I get the smell of exhaust fumes in the car. It doesn't happen always. Sometimes the fumes are noticed after a short distance and sometimes maybe a 20 mile journey before the fumes are noticed. It is not an electrical problem such as faulty heater motor as the fumes are identical to the rear exhaust emission. I have had a new turbo fitted a few weeks ago. Maybe connected to problem? Anyone had a similar problem? KF.. Galaxy 2001 TDi Quote
insider Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Could be a leak from the turbo / exhaust manifold. Exhaust gasses from there could easily be drawn into the heater inlets. Quote
gregers Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 you havnt got problems with your auxiliary booster heater have you? Quote
Manxman Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 Aux heater is fine... I will check on the joints around the turbo and exhaust manifold. Is the cabin filter the only intake for the main heater? Strange how it is intermittent.... Quote

Strange how it is intermittent....I had same problem, the dealer diagnosed a leaking injector seal- which was replaced under warranty and it cured the problem Quote
Musogen Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Same problem: smells like exhaust fumes in the cabin, worst when stationary, cabin filter goes black with 'soot'. Did a smoke test but found no leaks anywhere. Any thoughts welcome, no-one likes changing the cabin filter! Thanks, M Quote
