artevie Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Last night our Galaxy was broken into. It was parked on the drive, right next to the house. this wasn't your usual smash and grab as the lock on the drivers side had been punched in - so neatly that I didn't even notice it at first. What I don't understand is why the car alarm didn't go off? The car was locked - they had to get right in to take the things they did and they left all 4 windows open half way down. Has anyone experienced the same? Quote
mk2vr6 Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 this method of getting into VW's is a well known thing and has been mentioned on the BBC's watchdog program a couple of times, get an aftermarket alarm fitted, one thats not switched off by operating the locks  Quote
gregers Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 you got any more info or a link VR6?. Quote
jkspoff Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 If this topic is openly discussed on how it happened, then the method could end up in the wrong hands. Quote

Mirez Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 It is indeed widely available, and effects earlier Fords and some others - technically its no great shakes, without being techincal they simply operate the lock which turns off the alarm and operates the central locking - just as if they had used the correct key. De-lock any car is always the answer!!! Quote
artevie Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 Thanks to all of you for bothering to post. There I was thinking my car was safe! Quote

De-lock any car is always the answer!!! The whole alarm thing kind of makes sense but how did they get the electric windows down (all 4), when they had no access to the ignition? Quote
turk90210 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 the answer to this question is called global closing/opening Most galaxy's with electric windows have it enabled, basically if you open the door with the keys and hold the key in the unlock position the electric windows come down, the opposite happens if you hold the key in the locked position Quote
