Tatty Inside Door Handles

hi all

you probly all know the mk1 problem of the door handles inside becomeing very tatty and wearing away, you cant buy them except as part of a new door card at an obsene price,

i found a very good alternative.

most diy shops sell plasticote enamel paint in small glass jars, i found a color called night blue and a gloss black, i mixed them and got a color very similar to the blue trim inside, a bit like navy blue, after a bit of mixing to find the right shade i painted it on, it covers very well and covers the worn patches . its a gloss finsih though and the trim is matt, i used a bit of t cut to matt it down.

its a very good substitute and restores the trim to a much better condition.

i suppose you could paint the whole surround in any colour you fancy. i just stuck with trying to blend it in. around

i have to say the worst parts on my MK1 galaxy are:

1. the door handle surrounds

2. the seat fitting surrounds.

umm, you can buy them seperately from fords and on ebay, and there is a specific type of paint that you can use as it has been done before on here, it is always best to scrape off the tatty rubbery carp before you pain them, i know, as i did this on a previous galaxy, gave up and bought a whole new set for around 40 quid including the bezels.

 

never heard of having to buy the door card to get em..

all the above pointless waffle is for a Mk2 the oe poster is on about a Mk1 where the internal door pull is glued to the door car and is not available seperately, and for your info no fish were harmed in the process

heres a pic of the paint pot and some of it on the door, i have since matted it down to match better with a bit of t cut. i think the blue is a common galaxy trim colour, i used a night blue and a gloss black to match it.

as you say a little toooo shiney in that pic but once dulled down will look great
