it seems my galaxy has had some issues regarding the cooling system,

1> I have now replace the temperature sender as it was not reading anything on the dash

2> replaced the thermostat and it was stuck open.

my normal operating temperature now seems to be about mid way on the temperature gauge, (between the O and the R of NORM) however if i stop in traffic it stats creeping up past the R and on its way up the M, it goes back to about mid way when i start driving again but i decided to pull over today when it was up near the top end of the R and the radiator fan wasn't even on, i would expect it to have been at last on at a slow speed.

do you think i need to change the fans cooling thermal switch?

No.

I think you're being neurotic.

Leave it idling for a long while. If the fans don't cut in before the RED bit, then think about check the switches.

LOL! ;)

I would rather be neurotic and spend a few quid on a sensor than complacent and spend hundreds of pounds replacing a cooked engine.

The fans will kick in at full speed when the themostat switch closes.

If you turn on the A/C, the fans kick in at low speed.

If the temperature gauge sits anywhere in the NORM range under normal driving conditions, the temperature sensor is perfect.

In addition to the gauge there is a small light in the guage which will illuminate when the temperature reaches an excessive level.
