Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 The Honda I traded in for the Galaxy had front and rear flaps too - front as factory-fit, rears fitted by me on the day the car was bought new in 1985. Rears fitted into plastic rear bumper and via a plastic stand-off thingy, part of the inner rear wing. No rust when car sold at just under 18 years old. Fronts fitted to front wings, and nearside was also rust-free wehn I sold it. Offside front wing had just started to bubble on the surface around the attachment point. Not bad for 18 years! Second car in the family, a 1998 Scenic, has genuine Renault rear flaps that I fitted. These are a hollow design with drain hole at the bottom. They fill with mud, silt and other cr*p off the road. Very badly designed. Quote
italiastar Posted March 9, 2004 Author Report Posted March 9, 2004 Hehe! Your mudflaps are doing the job they're designed for sir, scraping the mud off the road... Nice one "Seatkid" - you sound just like someone in the trade that we love so much! I think to mudflap or not is a personal thing - I've always had them, from self fitted universal ones, to factory fit and never had any problems (until now) and actually like the look of them - other people have had problems and can't stand the sight of them. I wound up SEAT again today and asked them to provide me with the measurements. Adding if they say that the S and SE are the same, they'll have to change my suspension and if they confirm they are different then I'll question why they gave me the wrong advice in the first place. They'll love me! Quote
Guest rayman Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Hey Ivor, you forgot to wear an anorak while you took the pics!!!!!!!!! Quote
seatkid Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 B) Hey Ivor - ignore the digs:mellow: We know u  ya Galaxy Keep up the good work.... ^_^ Did u know that springs can be fitted the wrong way round? Thats what the two yellow paint blobs are for.....(or four if youve just had a ford dealer refit them  ) Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Rayman - you're wrong, I was wearing an anorak when I took the pictures.Taliska - no offence taken, I can josh with the best. Photos only took a few minutes after walking my elder daughter to a friend's house on Saturday morning. Followed by some serious shopping including risking buying a freeview receiver even though we live in a "marginal" signal area.Great frustration Saturday evening trying to get it to work as it's to feed a PC running a TV card with no SCART sockets yet all freeview sets are designed to work via SCART. Use of video recorder with 3xRCA sockets and "trick" SCART lead required and finally got it going at about 11:00pm with all free channels received. So no Monday morning quote at work of "I measured my mudflaps this week-end"!!! I'm now waiting to have a free toy fitted to the car - a Satnav-powered guidance system (no display unfortunately) courtesy of Haymarket Publishing. Quote
italiastar Posted March 11, 2004 Author Report Posted March 11, 2004 Spoke to SEAT again and problem sorted! It's all my fault! They've had no other complaints so it's me who's got the problem - there's nothing wrong with the flaps. If they are causing a problem then they suggest I remove them as it's me who's got the problem - it's my fault because I wanted the flaps. They can't give me the correct measurements as this depends on load, tyre pressure etc etc etc. They can't say why the dealer agrees with my findings and suggest I waste an hour taking the car to the dealer so they can measure it and phone the techinical department to get the measurements they can't give me because the teccies are not customer facing. So at the end of the day it's all my fault - probably my fault because I bought the car in the first place! If only everything in life was as reliable as a ..................... Quote
seatkid Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I don't belieeevve it! (a la Victor Meldrew). I tell you the thing that will kill off the Shalaxy will be the customer service or rather total lack of it...... Similar attitude to my aircon problems - 2 months out of warranty - "naff off sir!" italiastar Posted March 12, 2004 Author Report Posted March 12, 2004 Seat Kid, I think it depends on whom you speak to - just I always get the wrong ones. My neighbour bought his Alhambra privately and one month out of warranty the wipers failed. He waited several weeks for a replacement motor and during this period they gave him a Fiat Stylo (Yes they are a Seat main dealer!). The replaced the wiper motor and then found that it wasn't the motor, but the linkage, which had seized (please don't ask the obvious question). At this point he asked for a Alhambra courtesy car and they provided a used one. In total he had four Alhambra's - the last one was a brand new one registered for him to use and the repair took FOUR MONTHS to complete. At the end of this they presented him with a bill for Quote
