I have recently bought a Nov 2004 Galaxy which came with two remote keys.

One works fine. The other flashes red but does not work remotely. It does work if used in the "old fashioned way".

I tried to reprogram the second key following the instructions in this forum.

However, the small red LED light in the drivers door does not come on at all. I think in this instance this means that the car is not going into "programming mode".

So far as I can tell the alarm and cerntal locking features are working OK with the other key or if the duff key is used mechanically, even if this light does not illuminate.

Should I be worried about this light not working?

How can I reprogram the second key in the absence of the car going into programming mode?

Any help much appreciated

What I cannot understand is why the little red door light always fails to come on.

It does not come on when I try reprogramming and as the trigger is mechanical (three turns of the key) this makes me think the fault is not with the key.

Neither does the light come on when I use the other working key to central lock and alarm the car.

The reason I do not think it is the key is that the little red light in the drivers door never comes on, even when the car is locked using the other "good" key.

I think the alarm is working because the dog has set it off once or twice when it was inside the locked car..

Can anyone think why the little red light is not working?

Is it because a previous owner has deactivated the key programming mode?

Theres a bit of a knack required.

Start with the car doors closed but unlocked.

Put the key in in the driver's door lock and lock it return the key to the centre position.

Wait 2-3 secs.

Turn the key to the lock position (clockwise) and return immediately to the centre position, then

after approx 1 sec turn the key to the lock position (clockwise) and return immediately to the centre position, then again

after approx 1 sec turn the key to the lock position (clockwise) and return immediately to the centre position.

You should see the drivers door led on constantly - i.e. programming mode

The sequence and timing are important

It only works in the drivers door lock.

If the above fails then its likely you have a broken wire in the door gaitor, but then I would expect also that the central locking would not work (unlocking all doors) from mechanical key operation.....

still not working, for some reason my car unlocks anti clockwise, is this right?? i have tried it and the led is flashing and after being locked 3 times the led goes off all together??

untill i unlock it and lock it again then it flashes again like normal.

As i have said, my little red LED light never comes on, even when the car is just locked normally with the working remote fob.

I thought that the LED normally flashes every few seconds to indicate that the alarm is set?

Almost certainly one or more wires are broken in the door gaitor - very common problem - see FAQ for further details

o.k thanks i will keep trying i am sure i will get there in the end.

The trouble i have is i brought the car with no central locking at all and the drivers door lock was broke.

i swapped the lock with the one on the passenger side, and got a central locking ecu from ebay as the one which was in the car was water damaged.

and basically had no chance of ever working again. when i plugged the new one in all the interior lights came on and the central locking all works fine.

i got some new batterys for the fob and cant program it in.

any other ideas why it mite not be working???

thanks

Hi Seat Kid,

My symptoms are -

If car locked using key all central locking works OK and light on inner door trim flashes fine.

LED on key flashes when buttom pressed and battery is new but it doesn't operate remote locking

Tried the reprogramming sequence above several time being very particular about it and makes not difference - Light in card doesnt come on after sequence

The key has worked previously but was a bit intermittent then stopped working altogether.

Do you think this sound like the broken wire issue?

Thanks

im wondering if you have a problem with the pcb in the fob itself?dry solder or its cracked, iirc this has been mentioned before.

Ok guys,

I've managed to get the vehicle into program mode but when I press the lock unlock in sequence mentioned on the fob key the key fob light flashes 5 times but the door lock led does not flash. Hence the fob has not been accepted. I have changed the batteries within the fob key but still no joy. Is it critical where you position the key when programming? Is this just an issue with the key fob?

The key itself is programmed to the pats system ok, I just want it to open and close the doors remotely

Any help would be good,

cheers,

Just an update to this post. After taking the key apart and cleaning I managed to programme it to lock the doors but not open them!! So it seems to be an issue with the circuit board I assume. Will keep plugging away :(
