galaxy20 Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 i have two problems with my 2.0 glx galaxy, maybe they are both related, the first is an idling problem and the second is the temperature gauge doesn't work.i have ordered a replacement coolant sensor that arrived today, its a 2 pin fitment with a screw fitting on the other end, but as far as i can work out the my sensor is down the right hand side of the engine it has a 4 pin connector and push fits into a coolant pipe with a clip to hold it in place. q1. have i located the correct sensor?q2. are there more than one type of coolant sensors for the 1996 2.0 MK1 petrol engine? Mirez Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Wait for confirmation as I've not fiddled with the Mk1 2.0 but I believe there are two sensors, one for the instrument cluster and one for the ECU. From memory the cluster sensor is a gold thing with two pins so it sounds like you have the correct one, just not yet found it ;) Quote
galaxy20 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Report Posted September 8, 2008 i think your right, basically the temperate gauge in the car isn't working so i need the engine temperature sensor not the coolant sensor, so i'm guessing i have the right one but just cant find where it goes, i ordered my Haynes manual yesterday but its not arrived yet so there is a lot of guessing going on LOL! ;) Quote
galaxyman73 Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 The coolant sensors are located on the rear of the thermostat /coolant outlet housing on the left-hand side of the cylinder head (under where coil pack is)The upper sensor is the engine the engine coolant tempThe lower one is temp-gauge sensor, Hope this helps if any, Quote
