Guest Fozzy Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 i am concerened about the fuel economy of my mondeo, it is a 1994 2.0 GLX Automatic. It runs at approx 20 pence per mile (around double that of my peugeot). Also it often comes close to stalling when idling at junctions, i wonder if this could be related to the fact that when the fuel cap is removed a lot of air is sucked into the tank, even with half a tank of fuel (could a valve be blocked that allows air back into the tank when it is taken by the fuel pump) if so where would i find it. I suspect that it isn't the original engine as when i was searching for insurance quotes, the insurance companies related the regestration number as a 1.8 thanks for any assistance Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 I have a 1993 1.8, It also stalls at junctions. As for the air rush, that is normal - its says so in the ford manual with the car. The stalling (so i am told) is caused by a number of things- . Rubber T-Piece (on side of engine, under 'coil'). Vacuum leak. Air mass sensor. Idle control valve (most likely). General poor electrics (connections). Blocked Vacuum regulators (see link). Leaking Plenum Chamber. Air temp sender. Speedo misread The speedo misread is caused by a damaged/faulty halls effect sensor on the transmission - ive checked everything on mine and it still stalls - only this to replace then im out of ideas (mine is broken). Go to http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole/Reference/Idle.htmlfor more help Hope it helps - im changing the speedo sensor this weekend, ill let you know what happens Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Yes! The Vehicle Speed Sensor wasnt working, but now i have changed it - i cant get it to stall. It was Quote
Guest Fozzy Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 thanks, i'll go through that list also. btw can anyone tell me what to ask for with regards to the rubber T-Piece.my local ford dealer had no idea what i was talking about Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Its a Rubber piece in the shape of a T, it goes from the right hand side (looking in) of the engine to allow manifold pressure to be taken into account in the vacuum system. The mad mole web page describes it more. It costs about Quote
