Hello to you all and may I be the first to wish you all a merry christmas.

Well, I thought I would get in first with that.

WD40

It is a water repelant. Ideal for ignition systems.

wd 40 is good for some things but i would never use it round the ignition system if you get it on leads etc it can form a sticky residue and the high voltage attracts dust and sticks to it then if it gets damp it is worse than it was befor

Thanks for the updated knowledge that I souldn't be using WD40 on ignition parts.

My initial post was more in relation to siezed parts.

Appologies for not making it clearer.

English was my worst subject at school and it does show. I am just fortunate for speel checker.

vaseline is good aswell around the engine :13: for some parts i might add.

Yeah, particularly on VR6's, thats a tight fit in there!

I find WD40 excellent for washing the grease out of bearings and stripping other lubricants from parts leaving only a thin water repellant film behind.

WD40 apparently means Water Dispersal for 40 days, so not even long enough to protect against an English summer these days!

I use it for preventing tools/machines from surface rusting when laid up, but wouldn't use it anywhere else to be honest.

Contact cleaner is what you want for all electrical components including ignition parts.

If your ignition is suffering from damp DO NOT use WD40 on it unless it is a last resort. Dry it and use some CarPlan ignition sealer. It puts a thin highly insulating plastic waterproof coat onto it.

I only do diesels now, but when I used to service petrol engined cars I used ignition sealer as a mater of course, preventative maintenance.
