kalover Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 (edited) Hi Everyone, Yep back again to ask another question :D Help from members has been freat so thank you, learnt a thing or two since registering :o If i was to add alloy wheels to my Ford KA is there a guide anywhere with pictures ? Also is it a matter of changing my standard wheels/tyres for alloy wheel ones as long as they are the same size of course or do i have to change other things for alloy wheels to be able to be used on my car? Thank youkalover I am happy to say thanks to forums like this i have learnt alot, i have managed to change my air filter, oil filter and renew oil, change a tyre, remove ICV and clean ICV to stop over reving and tighten handbrake. This may not sound like much to some people but i have not got a clue about cars and thanks to people online and my haynes manual i have learnt to do the above. I hate paying garages over the top prices for a few minutes work plus they click on that i am a novice and try ripping me off has happened several times. I reckon i have saved a bob or two by learning the above and doing it myself plus did not have to drive to a garage, book and wait etc. My OH thou knows someone who is very nice and charges very reasonable prices. He replaced my whole exhaust on my car, reset my Ford KA computer and checked for errors, fixed my rear light as lights was playing up and blinking strangely all for a tenner, thats what i call a generous man, i had to pay for new exhaust of course Edited September 4, 2008 by kalover Quote
mk2vr6 Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Don't know why i am typing this guess i wanted to say something typical woman droning on and on and on and on, now shut it sweet heart and get the dinner on or do you want another slap? :D you can get alloys to fit the ka from most good car accessory shops, depending on how much you want to spend and the size of the rims? you can get complete packages online off site that do all the hard work for you, all you have to do is choose the rim style, size, pay the bill and swap the wheels over when they turn up, mind you what with you being a female alloys would be scuffed to hell in the first week where you keep hitting the curbsor you can stick with the standard size rims and just swap your tyres over Quote

kalover Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 (edited) LOL What suggests that i am female? I am MALE (ROFL) What do you mean by rims? I will get the same size wheel and tyre which is already on my car if i can, i think they are 13 inch, will check tomoz. So i dont need special brakes, discs etc for alloys or anything then? Seems to only go from 15 inch :D (with alloys) for ford KA Just choose same size wheel/tyre will be buying a package, and remove old and replace with new? that simple? i know how to replace a tyre on my car so is that all i need to know to fit alloys to my KA? Also i have been reading something about offset, that it should be the same as manufacturer or something otherwise could effect performance/handling etc? again will try and find out offset what ever it is for ma KA and not sure how to know what off set a alloy wheel has. I also been looking and most ford KA tyres are 15 inch, why i dont know i know people likes bigger ones etc on there car but have not came across a 13 inch alloy yet, will check to see if mine is 13or 14 not sure what the standard size is will look tomoz. also when you buy a package what does the package consist of apart from alloy wheel and tyre of course? Sorry for all the questions, just ignore if i am driving you mad Thank youkalover Edited September 4, 2008 by kalover Quote
mk2vr6 Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 http://www.ford-shop.com/acatalog/Alloy_Wheels.html straight from ford so there should be no problems with fitting Quote
kalover Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 Oh also how much is it approx to change a tyre on an alloy? is it more expensive, i pay Quote
kalover Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 (edited) Hi, If anyone can answer the following i will go ahead and buy but need to know somethings first, Ignore all the rest i have asked above. 1) The tyres i got on my car are only 6 weeks old can i get the garage to take tyre off and put them on the new alloys or are the tyres for alloys different to standard wheel?, the alloy wheels i will be buying are the same size as what i already got on my car. R165/65/R13 2) This question will be answered by above, do tyres for alloys cost more than standard wheel tyres? or does it not make any difference 3) Am i able to put 14 inch alloys on my car without having to adjust or buy things like suspension etc what ever they are? reason for asking is 14 inch has nicer design than 13 inch and not many 13 inch around infact only found 13 inch alloys for ka direct from ford from link above. which they are alot more expensive than non ford brand alloys. 4) Just choose same size wheel/tyre will be buying a package, and remove old and replace with new? that simple? i know how to do a wheel change / replace a tyre on my car so is that all i need to know to fit alloys to my KA? 5) If i am changing to alloy wheels do i have to buy brake discs or will the ones on my car be ok? they are in good nick shiny etc, asking as thought might have to have different kind of brake discs for alloys 6) When you buy alloys as a package what does the package consist of? i know the it will include alloy and tyre obviously, but bolts etc i mean Please answer if you can, sorry to be a pain in the neck once someone has answered these questions i would have learnt another thing :o plus i will go and buy the alloys and fit them myself and go to my dad (he is a genuis with cars) and say what you think of my new alloys then? :D he will probably reply, who fit them for you as you not got a clue lol and then he will probably say i will check to make sure they are bolted on tight lol kalover Edited September 4, 2008 by kalover Quote
mk2vr6 Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 1+2. the tyres are the same for both wheel types 3. yes all you are changing is the rim size (increase in diameter) and the tyre decreases in profile in order to keep the original rolling diameter 4. yes give or take a few minor things 5. no you dont need to change anything to do with the brakes or the suspension unless you want to? 6. depends on where you buy them from? some places throw in the bolts and some offer them as an extra 7. are you sure your not female?
