The reason I ask, is that as far as I could see on my car (and the TIS pic) there are only 3 bits on mine - Plastic retainer, spring and chassis hook - I'm intrigued where this hex nut goes...... mumof4 Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 Sorry, couldnt find the power cable for my scanner, so i took a pic of the diagram which shows all 4 pieces,.. dont forget this diagram is for models 1994 to 2000. In the pic in post 18, you can see the hex nut is on the threaded bit in the middle, may aswell replace it as it only cost 43p. Quote

Plates were cheap as i was cheeky and asked for a discount :wacko: The plates are advertised at from 12.99 at the Ford garage here. they are also offering a service to replace the battery in yer keyfob and recode for 12.99. So far..im quite impressed with this ford garage. Quote

mumof4 Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 they didnt sell me bits that i didnt need, im erring on the side of caution and replacing all the bits, even the two bits still there as they are rusted to buggery.. rather be safe than sorry. since i dont have remote locking.... the fob bit is of no use to me at all :D Me...i'm a spendthrift, have to be with 4 vultures to bring up and feed :wacko: Quote

I think. though it's been a while. Will be under there tomorrow doing a cable myself, I'll take a pic if it would help. Quote

The spring tensions the front cable so that you don't notice the slack on the handle before it pulls on the calipers, and so that the equaliser doesn't hang down. xavier Posted September 26, 2015 Report Posted September 26, 2015 Interesting, I fixed my cable today as part of my MOT fail (caliper not effective enough with h brake). Cable is the problem, caliper mech is fine. Unfortunately garage had a look and reckoned pads needed done. Figure while I'm at it will do the discs too. Have to say replacing the cable today was a breeze. Top tips: Use mole grips on the clips holding the cable in. Set them to about a cm and then bend the clips open.If your cable is siezed in the bracket just before the spring bit, use a chisel to break the corrosion by opening the gap. Last time I did this I used heat, but didn't need to by using this method. The metal will bend and you can re-shape once the cable is free.If you need some extra slack, actuate the caliper opposite to the one you're fixing and wedge it down, alternatively, pop the cable out of that side for maximum slack. Not that relevant to the cable but last time I changed the caliper I put a dollop of copper gease on the mechanism where the handbrake seal is. Interestingly the caliper I put a dollop on (2 years ago) has a smooth action. Another caliper fitted by a garage a year ago is far stiffer and appears to need freed off. Quote
