galaxy20 Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 have you checked the oil cap for any signs of head gasket? Quote
seatkid Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 still overheating but not as much if i put hot air on in car it keeps temp down but rad fans dont kick in until temp is nearly in red :wacko:Likely to be faulty (or badly fitted) thermoswitch for fans. Quote
Beyond Help? Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 (edited) have you checked the oil cap for any signs of head gasket? That is a common misconception. You can have combustion gasses pressurising the cooing system without oil getting into the water, or water into the oil. The ony sure-fire way to check is a sniff test. Beyond Help? Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Back to the OP's question. It does sound like the thermostat. The thermostat is located in a plastic housing on the end of the cylender head if I recall correctly. But I only work on diesels so could be wrong. I do know that on a V6 it is a pig to get to and you would do well to buy a new housing too, as they are prone to cracking and replacing it when it is off is a good idea. Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Just a quick thought. There was a longish topic on this a while ago and it was resolved only when the owner had his rechipping reversed. You say nothing about having the performance boosted at all but just in case..... If not relevant, just ignore me. Quote
fedupwithjunk Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 There has been a lot of similar posts if you search the forum. The most common conclusion was head gasket which seemed to cure it for some people. I have had 3 thermostats changed to no avail. Eventually a second gas test revealed exhaust gas in the header tank. (search my previous posts and you'll see the multitude of tests and work I have had done) But after a dose of K-seal it has been driving fine for a year like this except I have to keep an eye on the coolant level and my heater blows cold half the time. My garage are pretty sure its not the head gasket and in consulation with Ford uk they think that it is actually a cracked turbo. The car is now 8 years old and is not worth the investigation any longer and I am going to chop it in for a new one. Maybe and S-max? Quote
