SharanTDICarat Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) Having some problems with me 1998 Sharan TDI 110 AFN engine checked for fault codes using a mates Seally reader but nothing showing apart from AC fault & air bag fault that I already know about. The problem I am getting is in 1st gear (sometimes 2nd) when I pull away it feels low on power then about 3-4k RPM its like the turbo chimes in in one go rather than the progressive power I have had for years. There is no excessive smoke & oil consumtion is as normal. Higher gear doesn't seem to show up any loss in power. There is no warning light & its not going to limp mode. It had a new MAF about a year ago, but have tried disconnected it. Also, & I dont know if this is related, but she will start 1st time from cold no hessitations but with a warm engine it can take 5-10 secs of cranking over before she will catch. I did have a cold start problem last winter glow plugs not coming on turned out to be the 4 pin temp sensors on the coolant pipe, which sorted that fault. I have been told it could be the vacuum pipes to the turbo & n75 relay, or the ERG is clogged up.Its is the 1.9 TDI AFN engine with 157,000 mile on it.So I am looking for any advice about this.TIATAM Edited August 29, 2008 by SharanTDICarat Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Hi. You do not seem to have any response on this. It seems to have a lot in common with my recent problem. If you are still suffering or have a solution I should be interested. Quote
SharanTDICarat Posted September 28, 2008 Author Report Posted September 28, 2008 No joy so far but then I've not really had time. I am going to try replacing the 3mm vacuum hoses as that is the cheap option, failing that the N75 solinoid.TAM Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 This type of fault does seem to crop up quite often and, from what I can see, there is seldom a positive cure and certainly nothing common. I have chased mine aroud for a week or two now being reluctant to throw a lot of drinking vouchers at what is outwardly a rolling wreck. You may wish to read through the posts but Ishall try to pass on what I have found. The fault symptoms have a lot in common but the most defining symptom with mine was the considerable increase in diesel rattle when faulty. It helped to make sense of this after I bought a VAG COM ( Quote
