This is my first time so treat me gently, I have just bought a TDI Ghia Auto 2001 and it has a noisy aux heater turbine, looking through the tech list the problem is a known one by the looks of it. Can the turbine be refurbished as I would need another mortage to replace it or can I turn the blessed thing off as it sounds as if the dam car is going to take off.

Also any idea's about the front wipers stopping mid-sweep then starting after a few seconds. The manual says something about should the wipers be obstructed then they automatically stop and re-start after a while. Could there be a potensionmeter that can be adjusted. Any help would be much appreciated as the wife thinks I have bought a lemon.

Welcome to the forum, apparently these Aux heaters do make a noise like a jet engine, if its working don't fix it. Don't think you can turn it off as its controled by the ECU. Wish mine worked proply. :(

You dont say whether the wipers do this every time they sweep or not?

Hi Bri, I to have the same problem with the wipers stopping mid sweep but this only happens on intermittent. I think it is a dodgy relay ( I hope ?)

can't comment on the wipers but there have been endless debates about the aux heater. it IS very noisy but most of us seem to like the turbojet noise. the tick tick tick noise some of us get from the fuel pump that serves the aux heater is less popular but apparently there is a fix available for that from ford. my experience is the turbo jet noise is very audible when you switch the engine off and this is normal. when the engine is on, i'm not really aware of the turbo jet noise, though i can hear it if i put my mind to it. if your turbo jet noise is VERY audible even above the noise of the engine, then perhaps you have a problem. otherwise i would learn to live with it and love it

Wiper arm pivots seize over time, often a complete linkage is fitted.I have also heard of similar problems due to resistance of the wiper blades on the screen & being cured by fitted the 'floppy' type blades fitted on new galaxies.

As for the aux heater noise I think it's cool <_<
