Rob S Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 Hi All! I've been trying to find a similar problem to mine in the forum without any luck as yet. I have a 96 Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi that suddenly seems to like unlocking itself after I've locked it.Until recently if I held the key in the lock position there would be a slight clunk and the driver door would lock - now I don't get the clunk and it sounds like the door is unlocking itself (it makes the "whirr" sound to lock, then makes the same sound when I let the key return to the central position) although the alarm is activated (door LED flashes).Last summer I replaced the complete door loom - so I'm thinking it can't be a broken wire ........ not again surely!! Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance. Quote
seatkid Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 I had a 96 Alhambra (no remote locking) and I seem to recall the central locking was vacuum operated? ;) (not sure though) That car occasionally didn't lock all the doors, and once or twice seemed to unlock itself several hours after it was locked. Never got to the bottom of it as the car was written off.My later 98 Alhambra has remote locking and looks like its a different system. You could check under the passenger seat for water damage to the central locking module. Quote
POMPEYFAITH Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 (edited) I had this problem with my 1996 galaxy 2.8vr6 even so far as to go out to my car in morning to find all doors unlocked and windows open it was indeed the control module under the passenger seat that got soaked i got a new one and modified the location of it so it was not laying on the floor by screwing it to the panel that slides out under seat. dave Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Hi, I have just purchased a 2001 2.3 galaxy with central locking problems also, and would just like to have somebody express there opinion. My car will not lock with remote central locking (changed batteries in fob), but will only alarm 3 doors on the car. And when it comes to locking with the key it will only lock the drivers door!!!! Somebody pls advise. Thanks Quote
seatkid Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Read the FAQ regarding broken wires in the rubber gaiters to the door. Common problem Quote
mk2vr6 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 My car will not lock with remote central locking (changed batteries in fob), but will only alarm 3 doors on the car. And when it comes to locking with the key it will only lock the drivers door!!!! Somebody pls advise. Thanks when you say alarm 3 door you mean the alarm only sounds if you open the other doors? in that case it's possible you have three duff door switches, the switches serve several purposes, operating the interior light/door ajar system and the alarm, the are two switched outputs on these switches if you loose one of these, one of the afore mentioned functions fails! dave Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Hi,Thanks mk2vr6 for your comms, i have read the comms about the broken wires in the rubber gaiter, and will be looking into that but found your info interesting. Yes the alarm only sounds on 3 of the doors and the interior lights come on when the car is opened. When locking with the key i can hear the motor in the drivers door and the petrol cap locking only so your thoery sounds possible, so i will have a look into both suggestions. Many thanks Quote
mk2vr6 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 the oe alarm without ultra sonic sensors is tripped by either opening the doors, the bonnet, the rear hatch or by smashing the rear screen! if the alarm is only tripping on opening certain doors then you have duff switches! these are mounted on the B post or on the rear door arch cut out, as you say you can hear the doors locks working only on certain doors it does sound like you have loom problems as suggested earlier Quote
c4ble Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I have a P reg galaxy , the central locking or alarm does not work but when i remove the central locking control unit no change.my car still works the same . has my box been bypassed shall i bother to replace ? its definately goosed beyond repair from water damage. lroyb Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Hi, I also have a P (97) reg 1.9tdi galaxy. I also have no central locking at all, either with key fob, or key. Electric windows are a funny one.Passanger door works from passanger door with ignition on and off, from drivers door works up and down, with ignition off, but will only work up with ignition on.Drivers window is none operational at all, i think the motor system is screwed. I think that they're all related to the ecu under the passanger seat, with i've taken out and cleaned (was water damaged, i think) there is a person on ebay that sells a mod to fix it instead of buying a new ecu, is this recommended?? Any idea's Thanks Lroyb Quote
lroyb Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Forgot to mention, Alarm works fine. After checking the door boots, I found that a brown cable (not in with the main pin section, kinda on it's own) is broken in the drivers door. All the other 3 doors are fine. not even a crack in the insulation on any of them. Due to the location of this, right at the plug (broken at the connector), it would be kinda difficult to solder. any idea's upon how to fix this cable RegardsLroyb Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 I haven't seen this particular plug assembly but when I had similar problems with the connections to the door mirrors I just bridged the entire assembly by chopping both input and output wires and connecting with a normal mains type screw connector. Brutal but simple and effective. Unfortunately impossible if you cannot get to both input and output wires. Ron. Quote
lroyb Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 Hi Managed to repair the broken cable. bought a disconnect block from 'the range' for 99p, trimmed down the connector, and it worked a treat, but my central locking is still caput. How can i tell if it's the ecu or the door motor. Don't fancy buying one, to find out it's the other one. RegardsLroyb Quote
lroyb Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 (edited) Nevermind, fixed it. After reading a nice pdf on the fusebox layout, i checked the fuse, which the person i got it from, didn't know how to put the fuse in proper, and had missed the holder. After re-seating it, it worked a treat. RegardsLroyb Edited September 14, 2008 by lroyb Quote
