Joey Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 I wanted a bit of advice from you. My car is in the garage at the moment having a new clutch fitted and when the mechanic phoned his supplier they told him that they wouldn't warrant the new clutch without the DMF being replaced at the same time (even thought they are sold seperately and not as one item). He was bemused by this so phoned a different supllier and they told him it that was BS and they warrant the clutch without a new DMF being fitted (their clutch kit is also cheaper) so he's fitting the clutch and will only replace the DMF if it's outside of the normal wear parameters. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has come across this 'advice' when having their clutch replaced. Quote
Triple Trouble Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 All I can say for certain, is that when DMF was relpaced under a recall some 2 years ago, the clutch was replaced as well, presumably in case the DMF has distorted the clutch in any way (possible?) I am sure someone with a bit more techie background will be along shortly! Good luck, Quote
marinabrid Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 i think there is now a replacement 3 piece clutch kit available from suppliers that does away with the dmf set up. Quote

kevinp72 Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 (edited) euro car parts sell the clutch your looking for...i have a 115hp tdi .... the Dual Mass Flywheel .. pressure plate and clutch plate total cost £350.00 i bought the hydraulic thrust bearing as well it cost an extra £30 but it was worth it.... I have just had mine done too (Clutch, DMF, Plate & Bearing)£616 fitted inc. VAT which I thought was a pretty good price all things considered! The clutch started slipping so needed to be done. I wanted to change the DMF as well as I had suspected it of causing a vibration that I get at approx 1600-1900 rpm (the DMF was knackered anyway!). It's a wierd one. It's almost like a cylinder not firing, but then it clears as you pass 1900rpm?Unfortunately, this hasn't cured my problem so it's booked in for a diagnostic check on Wednesday. Frauds wanted £70 but a local garage is doing it for £30. My Vagcom isn't showing any faults, so I don't know how worthwhile the check will be, but it's only £30.Will let you know if he finds anything worthwhile... Edited October 23, 2010 by kevinp72 Quote
AAAA Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 Hi Kevinp72, I've a 54 plate 115 Brake Galaxy with the same vibration you describe. Did you ever find the cause of this issue? Cheers Quote
