me myself and I Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Peeps, just picked up a 1997 Alhambra 1.9Tdi.I jave 2 questions.Insurance people need t know whether it is 90 bhp or 110. (Accelaration is leading me to believe it is 110).Any clues on paperwork or on the car itself to identify it or will I have to ring main dealer? What oil is best for the engine? Will be used as a Taxi so it is essential that it gets the right oil?Cheers in advanceBrian Quote
seatkid Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 (edited) Open the rear offside storage compartment (where the jack is) - There is a large sticker just in front of the rear light cluster - All the info you require is there. P.S. 66kW = 90bhp As yours is a TDi and not a PD, the correct oil should meet spec VW 505.00 which is not a very demanding spec by modern standards. I would recommend using a good quality synthetic or semi-synthetic. You can buy Quantum Synta at VW/Seat dealers - the silver pack is semi synthetic 10W-40 and is usually reasonably priced. If your taxi will be doing high mileage and changing the oil at 10,000 miles regularly then this oil will be sufficient. If you want to squeeze some extra mpg (~3 - 5%), then use a 5w-30W fully synthetic that meets 505.00 spec. Lots of different types available......... Edited August 21, 2008 by seatkid Quote
me myself and I Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 (edited) just bben reading the oil thread and I am more confused (only got to page 4!!!!!!!!!!!) Had a look inside and the code is...95VWA280A44 ADWas gonna use 10w 40 Fully Synth and drop it every 5-6k Edited August 21, 2008 by me myself and I Quote
seatkid Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 (edited) I meant a sticker that looks something like this....My V5 document also lists an engine no. the first three letters of which signify the engine type (in my case AHU - 90bhp - yours might be 1Z also 90 bhp) - although it seems not all V5's do this..... If your tailgate has an all siver Tdi then thats 90bhp, the 110bhp has a red i The tdi is not that fussy about oil, its the later PD engines where the oil is critical. Fully synth is good for 10k especially in taxis that are in constant use - why waste money? Edited August 21, 2008 by seatkid Quote
me myself and I Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 My logbook (v5) is AHU engine number. 90bhp so Quote
seatkid Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 AHU is considered by many to be one of the best VW diesels ever produced for reliability and longevity- almost bulletproof. Quote
me myself and I Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 well if i get as little trouble from it as I got from my 1.8 Duratec Diesel in my 00 Mondeo i will be more than happy.300k miles with only a small hiccup.thanks for your help Seat Kid.1 thing on my mind though.I hear a sound which I can only describe as a jet engine in the distance from the engine and goes with the engine revs.I am convinced its my turbo maybe on its way out. There are 142,000 miles on it. mumof4 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 that would be the auxhillary heater.... i think you have one, its under the passenger side and looks like an extra exhaust pipe. jet engine noise means it works. thats if you have one.... after re reading.. i think im wrong. Quote
veedyf Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 your noise happens around 2.5 - 3 k revs yeah??under heavy accelarating.....i have thhis noise too....my alhambra is also hitting 142k miles i was convinced it was the heat shield rattling ....could be wrong tho.....hope its not the turbo anyway.....but ive got a spare turbo that needs a re-con ...so im not that worried ......yet :D  Quote

This noise may be caused by a belt tensioner pulley bearing failing. Quote
veedyf Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 dont think its the pulley... its not schreeching as such (if its the same noise as mine)sounds like its about to go into warp mode ,,,but then dissappears ...hell of an anti climax  :D Quote
