I have a 2006 Galaxy and have noticed that at night when I first switch on the headlights they flicker for a few minutes before settling down and remaining steady. Has anyone else had a similar problem, and know what the fix is?

It sounds like you have the same problem that affects S-Max's as well. My 56 S-Max still has the flickering lights for the first few minutes and there appears to be no fix from Ford at all. There are lots of people have this on S-Max forums and i suspect as the cars are so similar to Gals, they must have similar wiring and electrics too.

Just thinking out loud - Fords used to be fitted with a "smart" alternator which could do various tricks such as reduce charging whilst accelerating heavily to boost power and to increase charging voltage significantly (over 15 volts) for a short time to "properly" charge modern Calcium technology lead acid batteries.

If they still fit these smart alternators then I suspect its a wiring design issue or ecu software issue or a problem with the alternators themselves.

Seatkid, that was the exact reason I heard off another site (but couldn't remember the name). They called it a 'smart charging system' from Ford. I actually had my car into them once about this and all the did was charge the battery. I've learned to live with it now. :o
