of turning over before it starts.. even trying to start as soon as switch off it takes ages before it starts......

anyone got any ideals..........

thanks

my new post is,, i have change the battery, starter with new ones, and also fuel and air filters, and engine coolant temp sensor, ( this little problem is working out very expensive.....) BUT STILL GOT THE SAME PROBLEM TAKES AGES BEFORE IT STARTS WHEN ENGINE WARM OR HOT........

This seems to be one of those things that no-one talks about unless they have the problem. Mine is the same and has been since about 170000miles. (NOW 220,000). My solution - ignore it. I have seen several posts in the past but no answers.

I did read about someone who'se Gal failed to start at all when it was hot and he was told it was worn bores/rings.

If it's any help, I think mine is better with a full tank - could be worn pump???.

Sadly, I cannot remember when mine started doing it or if it was gradual or sudden.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Just popped in briefly first time for ages. I hope yours keeps going like mine.

Had the same problem with my Galaxy 110 tdi, also used to get beeping noise when turning the ignition on when cold. Battery died the other day so replaced with new. Since replacing beeping noise has gone and warm starting no longer a problem.

i think i did a post on this, our 98 110 , if i start form cold it fires up instantly, if by chance i switch it off after say driving 50 yards or just moving it in the drive it will then crank for an age before firing up, i too have tried new battery , starter, checked all filters etc etc, no one seems to have a cure, it shows no fault codes either, if i start it in the drive i have to leave it ticking over for a good 10 mins if i want it to fire up again without lots of cranking

as the other chap said, just live with it, i think its another galaxy certain model engine type quirk.

I think there must be several different faults here.

New battery - didn't cure mine.

Mine actually has to be warm - several miles before it has trouble starting.

Mine will start fine when warm if I leave it for a few minutes.

My troublesome cranking time is a predictable 5 seconds and has never varied in 3 years. It doesn't fire, hiccup or do anything and it seems like a lot longer and only faith makes me leave it cranking until it fires and it always does,.........so far

Others have reported similar symptoms but always with significant differences.

My only thought is that it is some sort of safety/protection 'feature' which is idicative of another fault, like excess fuel getting in somewhere or lack of oil or something completely different. It really needs someone who really knows the control system to come up with a 'feature' which stops an engine firing up and then to come up with a list of things that will cause it to come into play.

Someone out there must have an answer to this but has probably never suffered it so perhaps doesn't realise the significance.

Or, just maybe, it is a 'feature' that is supposed to get us so pi$$ed off with the old crates that we give up and buy a new one.

Mine does exactly the same. Think the time seems longer than it really is (10 secs) of turning over especially if on lookers!! Have no idea what the problem is but since mine has now done over 250,000 miles I put it down to old age. Another issue mine has is blue smoke for about 1 1/2 miles from cold, cant be oil as it doesnt need a top up between changes. Presume it is something fuel related but as yet I havent investigated.

Difficult warm starting may point to a faulty temp sensor.

Or allegedly a possible faulty starter motor. ( I know , but there are rumours ).

Is this problem restricted to 110bhp Tdi models (AUY) and is it associated with high mileage engines (120k+)???

I would think all TDI's in the case of the temp sensor.

No idea about the starter motor, details are a bit vague, could even be a duff battery, or poor earth or faulty relay or even brake switch all of which confuse the ECU and can cause poor warm starting.

This sounds like an "air in the fuel" problem where expansion allows air to enter the system when the pump gets warmer. One way of checking is to temporarily replace the fuel feed to the injectors with clear pipe and to watch for bubbles.

aye but what about my cold start or restart problem, ive tried a new sensor as well. practically swopped everything.

Try and see if it starts with no throttle or alternatively with throttle fully down.

Do not pump the pedal !

Might just be too much fuel already in the chamber.
