Guest manxdavid Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 I guess I need a new fan switch but how much and is there maybe a fix? Mk II Golfs used to do this and I think you could solder in new diodes or something. Any clues?
Guest nimrod Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 If its only blowing on the high setting it sounds like the resistor pack is gone! same thing as on the MK2 Golfs it only runs on the high setting as this is a direct feed and not a reduce feed through a resistor to control the fan speed. on the Golf its an easy job  not sure how easy on a Ka?
Guest karlska Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Nimrod is very much correct. It is almost certainly the resistor pack that is the problem.Water seems to get into it and torches it and the connectors themselves. The good news is that it's a very easy repair. The resistor pack is located in the passenger footwell. You will see it is a connector with about 4/5 wires.Think it's only 1 screw to remove it.Take the old one to Ford because there is an updated version of it.Should cost less than a tenner.Like Nimrod says the high setting on the blower is a direct feed to the heater but the other positions are fed via the resistors and that's why only the high setting is working.Hope this helps anyway.
Guest manxdavid Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Thanks chaps, I'll have a look tonight. Thing is I've had VWs for so long with their legendary alternative parts network I have a real aversion to main dealers!!! Ford ones always seem to look like Gypsy camps as well!!! Not nice places.
Guest manxdavid Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Sorted, it was a bad connection at that resistor pack. Looks like the connectors have been getting a bit hot; tightened and cleaned them and all's fine now!!! Thanks again guys!!! David.
