Hi,

When I turn the ignition on I get the Alarm System Requires Service warning message on the trip computer (started yesterday - 6500 on the clock, Mk111 Zetec 1.8TDCI). Has anyone else had this particular message? My experiences with the local Ford dealers (I'm on my third Gal) leave a lot to be desired but I know I'll have to wait at least 2 weeks to get it booked in. As the car still locks do you think I would have any other problems if I left investigation until the full service?

Regards

Thanks for the advice Gregers. Yes, it's still under warranty. Just been out today and no message (spooky, did it know I was talking about it behind it's back)! If it reappears it'll get booked in.

I had a problem recently with my alarm going off repeatedly without any reason, although it didn't give me any warning messages. The dealer took it in under warranty without question and changed some of the alarm components. They gave the impression that they were aware of the problem and knew how to fix it. It has been fine since.

Had this exact same problem with mine. Eventually got it fixed under warranty, but the dealer needed two attempts to get it right. This car has been in to the dealer with three faults so far and every time it has needed to go back a second time cos the job wasnt done properly!

Thats why Maunufactures did not want to fit factory alarms for that very reason

Retro fit are cheaper easier to service and damn more reliable when fitted correctly

Yes had this it was a faulty senser inside the car. Also the wipers came on the other day for no reason. Only way to turn them off was to disconect the battery. This was because of a relay switch under the wing somewhere the drain oulet from the windscreen runs right over it. This will be a problem at some stage for most galaxy Mk111 I think mine is a 2006 so watch out after 2 yrs old. The garage moved the new switch out of the way of running water.

Happened to me on my 2.2 after 1400 miles. Drove it to my local Ford garage, but then remembered something on this forum about faults being cleared automatically. I locked then re-opened the car and the fault had cleared. It has only happened once. If it happens again, I'll take it to Ford, but will not remove the key from the ignition until they have seen the error message.

I had this on my 56 plated Galaxy. I had to call the AA out as the alarm was going off all night, and once at the dealer they changed the Alarm sounder and an internal sensor. Fault displays Alarm Activation, the windscreen wipers do not work and the rain sensor fails. A known fault at the dealer apparently!

I had this warning recently on my Mk3 2006 2.0TDCI Ghia. Interior sensors located by the front interior overhead light was replaced. I guess though this message could be activated by an untold number of alarm sys faluts.

I've only had the car 2 weeks, purchased 2nd hand from a main ford dealer, the fault appeared after a long wet drive to cornwall from surrey....i hope that the fault really was the interior sensor and not related to any water ingress problems i'm reading more and more about.

Hi

New to this forum but have a 2007 mk111 and had the same problem...... Message appearing on the display and alarm activating for no apparent reason.... Also my wipers stopped working altogether approx 1 week after message first appearing..... Took to my local dealer in Cork Ireland and he explained to me that there is a module under the bonnet that controlls the alarm and wipers. The horn for the alarm is on the side of this module and is pointing up and water running off from the window can get blown into the horn thus filling up the module....... There is a modified alarm module, internal sensor and wiring loom to be fitted.

Also when took car in service manager informed that these cars had problem with clutch, flywheel and release bearing and he replaced them also........Mine was done under warranty and works perfectly since.....thank god....bought him a few drinks for all help..

the way to recognise problem with clutch/flywheel is when start the car with door open and you hear a rattle comming from engine bay and if press clutch it dissappears and also you hear/feel a click when pressing or releasing clutch peddle...chances are you are going to get trouble sometime soon from it...... again was told by said same service manager that there is a modified clutch flywheel and release bearing for these cars......

Hope this helps

We brought our 2007 1.8 Zetec on Christmas Eve. We have the same problem re the Alarm. It is currently in the garage apparentely it is a problem seen all the time. The battery for the alarm is located in a rear wheel arch. So if water penetrates this is requires changing.

This is not the only problem we also have excessive road noise from the front passenger side of the vehicle and they are looking at this also.

Hi,

I also have had this problem, the first time with Windscreen wipes came on and failed to stop even with the car parked and locked. The dealer said the problem was down to water getting into the alarm siren and is a known problem. The warning messaged occurred again and a new siren were fitted a couple of months later but this last time apparently moisture getting into a connector rather than a new siren.

The long term solution seems to be to avoid water, it shouldn't be too hard to avoid any rain or puddles in this country!
