moc Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Im getting a real violent vibration when pulling away in first gear and reverse (not all the time), it feels as if the engine is going to fall out.It even continues after you push the clutch down and try again, then stops and is ok for a while.Have checked the engine mounts by putting the hand brake on and trying to move forward and back but no movement to the engine.Have changed the drop links a few months ago and they are fine. The engine roll restrictor has been replaced in the last year. It`s p reg galaxy by the way.any info plz Quote
sepulchrave Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Ok, so it's a Galaxy and it's 'P' reg, can you tell us anything else about the vehicle please, like which engine and gearbox? Quote
moc Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 Sori it`s a 2.0 galaxy with a 5 speed boxany more info i should be able to get thx Quote
f0ster Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Sori it`s a 2.0 galaxy with a 5 speed boxany more info i should be able to get thx if you are sure the engine mounts are ok, including the steady bar under the vehicle, I have seen the inner c/v joints cause this type of vibration,it is usually worst in first because of more torque available in first which causes the front of the car to lift and so put more angle on the inner c/v joints, examine the gaiters on the joints both inner and outer, also grab the drive shafts and see if you can turn it at all, there should be a tiny amount twistavailable, if there is more than a tiny amount of twist it indicates a worn outer joint, to check the inner joint do the same but this time grab the body of the inner joint and see how much you can move it in relation to the shaft, Quote
moc Posted August 7, 2008 Author Report Posted August 7, 2008 thanx for the info will try that tomorrow nite and report back Quote
moc Posted August 8, 2008 Author Report Posted August 8, 2008 no slack on any of the shafts, with wheels on the ground and off,all gaters are ok no rips or signs of wear. Quote
seatkid Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Check the roll restrictor with someone revving the engine. The bolt can shear, but still look as if its in place...... Quote
moc Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 I have now been told it might be the clutch, but it onli happens at random times there is not pattern to it.does not seem to matter if cold/hot,steering left/right.onli seems to happen from a stand still. Quote
sepulchrave Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Sounds like the clutch has been overheated and has warped the pressure plate, I'd get the flywheel ground as well as replacing the entire clutch (don't forget the release bearing too). Quote
moc Posted August 24, 2008 Author Report Posted August 24, 2008 thanx for the info will look at sortin a new clutch out and report bac after its done. Quote
