andy22 Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 According to the Haynes manual disconnecting the ECM wiring may erase all of the learned values (i.e. reset the ECM) except for the error codes. There are others threads stating that disconnecting the battery and shorting out the power leads does the same thing. After reconnecting the wiring the vehicle must be driven for several miles so that the ECM can relearn new values. However, the manual (and the TIS) states this won't work with a Galaxy 2.3 Auto (1997-2000). The only why to reset the ECM to a basic set-up is by using the Ford FDS2000 diagnostic equipment or equivalent equipment. Does this mean if I change the Lambda or other management sensor that I need to take the Galaxy to Fords to reset the ECM or would driving for several miles relearn new values? Quote
Stevoo Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Hey mate my 2.3 had the O2 sensor stored as an error, with my obd reader i managed to clear it completly. If your local to london i can try it in yours. Quote
andy22 Posted July 31, 2008 Author Report Posted July 31, 2008 StevooThanks for the offer, I may take you up on that, I am in Enfield North London. I will be changing the Lambda sensor on Saturday, if I still have a problem with rough idling I may contact you. I have checked out your ODB reader on ebay and it allows reading and reseting of error codes. Can it reset the ECM to base setting as well? Quote
Stevoo Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 No prob mate im sure it will bring up any errors stored, im not 100% sure on ECM, but i did have a message on my obd reader about "readness stored = Y" dont know what it meant, but i reset ecu to clear any codes then it disappeared! Quote
