Help please! Our 2008 galaxy has started showing a ESP light (constant not flashing) on the display panel whilst driving. Also the information light apears in amber and a message "Engine Malfunction". Once the engine has been turned off and then back on again, everything is back to normal, all messages have gone. This has happened twice in the last 2 days. Has anyone else experienced this?

The ECU is registering a fault in the ESP module which clears each time you switch off. The fact that it comes back again indicates that the fault is recurring. Take it back to the Dealer to fix under warranty.

Hello.

I have the same problem from yesterday.

I was in service and I heard that all is ok.

Today message about engine and ESP control is back. I turned engine off and all messages was cleared.

Is that problem is only problem with software or something "hard" (like ESP)? Tomorrow I must go 500km and don't now what doing...

Regards,

Pawel.

P.S. My english is very basic

Dont know if this helps, but my son's fiesta ST had the esp light on, Ford had to replace the brake fluid trasducer under warranty which cleared the fault. In this case it was annoying but not critical.

Hi

We had this exact same problem, about 6 months ago.

After 4 visits to the dealer to get it fixed, they finally agreed to change the Turbo - as this is what they suspected was causing the fault.

However, the day it went in for the work - the guys found a hole in the inlet pipe to the turbo. Hurrah.

The bad news is the problem returned about a week ago - it is booked in this Wednesday(17/12/08).

Will keep you updated.

Tell your Dealer to look for Technical Service Bulletin no. 63/2008 (October 17):

"Summary

Should a customer express concern that the brake system warning lamp / Stability control (ESP) warning lamp is illuminated in the instrument cluster, the probable cause is a damaged front ABS-sensor wiring in the area of the shock absorber and spring assembly.

The ABS-sensor wiring harness for the front brake is available for S-MAX/Galaxy 2006.5 and Mondeo 2007.5 as a spare part for servicing purposes. If the ABS-sensor wiring harness is damaged the engine compartment wiring harness may no longer be replaced completely.

This TSB details the necessary steps to install the ABS-sensor wiring harness for the front brake."

We have a 2.0 tdci 56 plate and our warranty expires at the end of the year.

We had the "engine malfunction" message around Christmas and they replaced the turbo. I couldn't understand if they were saying we did not drive it hard enough often enough or if it was a faulty turbo.

Anyway six months on we have the same message. Simply the orange warning light and the words "engine malfunction".

It is under warranty and will be going back to the garage next week.

I am just a little concerned as we only have 6 months left on the warranty and there have been a good few issues with this car, oh well - see what they say next week.

Anyone had persisitant turbo problems?

Hi there, can you please advise where I can get the details of what is carried out under tsb 63/2008. I have had this recently done following an abs warning light and since that the car now drifts to the left??

Apart from removing the front wheel(s) from the car and the wheelarch liner to gain access, all that should be done is to remove a section of wiring loom going to the sensors and installing a new section.

George.
