I've posted a query about my faultly air-con recently ... I know a lot more about it now:

 

the compressor & its clutch work (have been powered up independently);

there's no gas leak and it's full of gas;

the 'on' light stays on when it's blowing cold air and when it's not blowing cold air;

I can't see any faulty connectors but haven't checked all the wiring yet.

 

It works for a while and then stops 'cooling' the air ... seems like something just turns the compressor off,

 

= could it be the DeIce Sensor or Switch on the evaporator?

Any other ideas?

 

If anyone has any simialr experience I'd appreciate details = it's a bit of a job to get to the DeIce Sensor and Switch just to 'take-a-look'.

IIRC only Ford engined models with manual a/c have a icing switch mounted on the evaporator. Certainly climate control (LCD display) models don't.

 

I think its more likely the 3 way pressure switch that is the reason. As your a/c works, the pressure builds up and if there is too much gas then the switch will trip on overpressure. You can check it with a meter or bridging it out for a short while (dont do it for more than a few seconds because if the pressure is too high then you could damage the compressor). If you establish that its the pressure switch thats stopping the a/c, first you need to establish whether the amount of gas in your system is correct.

 

Search the forum for location of the pressure switch.

Thanks for that seatkid ... it is a Ford engined model with manual a/c and does have an icing switch mounted on the evaporator. But with the evaporator behind the passenger side glove compartment etc I've not yet attempted to check it.

I'll have a look at the pressure switch.

mine with the climate control, and comes on and off like every 20 secs, eventually does come on and stay on until turn engine off and on again, noticed that if its very hot outside then play up for even longer,if u watch compressor, clutch kicks in and then stops then like 20 sec later kicks in and again after few secs stops.... so annoying
