Hi there,

Is the tonneau cover an accessory now or standard on a Galaxy Ghia? I had an early MK III where it came supplied, and a 2008 model where it did not. Penny saving by ford I guess. Anybody out there with a 2008.5 model who can confim it theirs came with one?

Thanks

Hello Jed,

We have a 2008.5 Ghia and it didn't come with a tonneau cover - we had to buy one as an accessory. I agree that it is measly of ford when you are paying a very tidy sum for a car already.

It is indeed an accessory. I asked my Ford dealer for the rational, for your entertainment, let me share the answer:

The Galaxy is mainly a 7 seater, where the cover is not needed and actually disturbs because there is no place to put it.

Also, some customers have told me that they don't need it because if potential thieves can see into the boot, they don't break a window for nothing.

My obvious challenge was, what if I do have something I want to hide.......

I agree, it is ridiculous do deliver a 20k+ car without, especially that it is still standard in the S-Max....

One other thought: Inside the showroom I noticed that with dark tainted windows in the back it is almost impossible to look into the boot even if there is no cover. Not sure how this is outside in plain sunshine.

You're right, you can see straight into the boot now on a sunny day. We liked the tonneau cover because it kept some road noise down to. It seems that ford are happy to strip everything off they can to penny pinch. The rear seat belts no longer unclip from their securing points which means if you did have a tonneau cover it would snag on the belts now. Nice that they have left me with the seat belt stowage holes in the rear quarter panels though at no extra cost!

Hi Peter

I've got a 2007 galaxy with a tonneau cover fitted, I'm replacing it with a 2009 model with no cover.

I was wandering what is involved in fitting one, could I transfer the one from the old car, would welcome any comments on this, thanks

I was just wondering if a smax parcel shelf would fit?

No, it won't. I bought one off ebay last year, which was advertised as 'fits Mk3 Galaxy and S-max'. When I got it I realised that it was for an S-max, because it wasn't long enough and the fixing/locating brackets were completely different. I returned it and got my money back, however, with a suggestion to the seller that the cover was for S-max only. :P
