westhaven10a Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 LOL, I've just logged on to try and find an answer to exactly the same problem. My '98R has electric sunroof which is sitting a little low on the entire front edge when closed and is therefore letting water in. I don't yet know how to solve that, but I would have thought the drainage system should be capable of coping with any water that comes in. I too have water coming through the roof clock etc, so assume I am looking at a second fault. It appears a relatively straight forward job to peel back the roof lining, after which I intend to trickle some water onto the sunroof and try and at least pin-point where the water is deviating from it's intended route. gregers Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 no its not a straight forward job just to peel back the lining,to do this you have to remove the side door pillar trim and seat belts etc, then remove the lining out of the rear hatch,MAKING SURE YOUR HANDS ARE CLEAN.westhaven it might be just a build up of crud that needs to be cleaned away but iirc on the side of the sunroof(inside looking up)there are some screws for adjust the sunroof you might be able to adjust the roof by undoing these and pushing the roof up. think it might be worth getting some thin long metal and gently poking it down the sides etc just to make sure theres nothing stuck inside?. mk2vr6 Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 LOL, I've just logged on to try and find an answer to exactly the same problem. My '98R has electric sunroof which is sitting a little low on the entire front edge when closed and is therefore letting water in. thats the way it's meant to be! front edge of glass -1mm to flush with roof line rear edge +1mm to flush with roof line why not just open the roof and pour a small amount of water into the area around the four drains, if it drains away then ok if it doesnt then the drain is blocked and there's your problem, if it does drain away them it's time to start looking elsewhere, most likely at the screens seal and why are you dumb asses all posting in the mk3 section? westhaven10a Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Thanks Gregers, it was sitting so low at the front and was obviously not right - much better now. I was hoping that there was enough give in the lining to ease it down enough to see what is happening at least with the pipes on the front two drains if I removed the sun visors, clock panel, passenger roof handle and front door rubber seals. Mk2 man, thanks for straying into this mk3 area with your technical input too, I will go into the finer measurement details when I have more time now I have a bit more idea what I am doing. Oh Yes!! Sorry, us 'dumb asses' only know how to do a search for the type of problem we have and then reply to the thread that best matches :-) Quote
