billywizzo Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Hi All, I am looking to change my MK I P reg galaxy as i am fed up trying to fix it all the time.I was looking at getting either a 2000 / 2001 reg galaxy which i think is the MK II (X reg on) or spend a lot more and get a 56 reg or later reg MK III.It will still be a used car as not enough money for a new one, only just enough for an early MKIII.What do people who have the MKIII think of it and is it worth another 10 grand or should i go for a MKII for about 4 to 5 grand.I have 2 15 month old girls so not sure if it is worth the extra money for a MKIII while they are still small and create so much mess. Also is it worth getting a diesel or stick with petrol.Cheers Bill Quote
big_kev Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 That's a difficult one , personally I would save myself megabucks and go for a top of the range older Mk2. I would personnaly say go for a diesel but again it depends on the cost. You could pay two thous. more for a diesel and if you don't do much mileage ( and if the price of diesel keeps increasing more than petrol ! ) there may be not much in it....don't buy a 2.0l petrol though. I have 2 15 month old girls so not sure if it is worth the extra money for a MKIII while they are still small and create so much mess. Please tell me these two 15 month old girls are twins and you don't have 2 wives.. p.s. if you think they make a mess now !......wait till you have mascara, nail varnish, lipstick, liner, blusher and got knows what else ingrained into your backseat upholstery as they get older. morellomax Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Not sure, but if you do decide to go for a Mk III, it may be worth stretching to a new one, at heavy discount, as the nearly new market is a funny old thing and doesn't seem to offer many bargains. New prices are also a bit weird at the mo though. Due to the oil price spike, you can get a brand new 2.5t titanium S-Max for 17k at www.drivethdeal.com. If you don't do many miles, and you're a good insurance risk, that's a lot of motor with a lot of warranty ! Quote
billywizzo Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 Thankfully twin girls not twin wives, that would drive me made. Was looking at a MKII 2.3 Ghia for 3500 but wife liked a 2.0 td ghia MKIII for 16000.There is a big price gap and not sure if having fold flat seats is worth it.May have to take them for a test drive and let them convince me.May also go for a new car through one of the discount web sites but would need to find a bit more money for that . bj2004 Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 i would go for a diesel mk 2 you may not do many miles now but as a father of 8 (eight) they soon want to use you as a taxi and lots of short trips uses a lot of fuel i bought a 12 mth warranty for Quote
billywizzo Posted July 25, 2008 Author Report Posted July 25, 2008 Cheers for the help.Still not sure but will prob go for a MKII diesel unless we get a good deal on the 2.3 petrol.A new one is outside the budget at the moment, kids costing us to much.I take it the bigger the engine size the better, never had a diesel so not sure of what to look for.Cheers again. jkspoff Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Go for the top spec mkII 130bhp or 150bhp 1.9tdi, they are VW engines and gearbox, plus Bosch components not Ford.Don't be afraid of car auctions, most offer 30 day warranties nowadays.
