Guest Rick Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Anyone know if its possible to retro fit a cruise control to a 2003 130ps TDi. I know that it's possible to do this on my VW Golf by purchasing a new indicator stalk, a bit of wiring and then getting it activated by VAGCOM. Quote
iainkirk Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Isn't cruise control standard on 130s ?? Is it only on Ghias and not Zetecs ? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I know this thread is a little old, but I am looking into a retro-fit cruise control on my Alhambra. As far as I am aware everything is in place except the stalk. You simply fit the stalk (http://www.intapart.com) and see if it works. If it does not then you simply have the dealer or someone with the correct software turn the cruise control software in the ECU. Still need confirmation of this, but as I also need a key programing to the ECU I shall fit the stalk first and they can turn the software on at the same time. Quote
Guest exemplum Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I would double check that everything is indeed in place, for instance the cruise control operates on a vacuum servo circuit which requires the installation of any such equipment including brake (and clutch if manual) switches. On the Mk1 galaxy for instance there is a vacuum servo located inside of the passenger front wing, (remove the passenger side front indicator lenses and you'll see it located there). If you have all the necessary hardware (which I doubt) then you should be fine. Quote

That only applies to petrol models, on TDI's and the 1.8T the cruise control is part of the engine management system, its possible on some of the VW's to have cruise retrofitted and a two stage switchable chip fitted! not sure if thats possible though on a Galaxy? Guest Boggler Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Any help? http://www.christiantena.pwp.blueyonder.co...ag/tdi/ccs.html Quote
MrT Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I may as well ask again, does anyone know the block and code to turn the cruise control light on in the instruments? On some Galaxies this light is not enabled in the software but is implemented in electronic cruise control. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Any help? http://www.christiantena.pwp.blueyonder.co...ag/tdi/ccs.html Thanks for that link, have already looked at that. Interestingly though, there is a link on that site to a scan of a german magazine page, but the resolution is too low to blow it up and I don't speak German either.... But by the pictures it is plug in the stalk.... Quote
Guest spanner137 Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 anyone fitted this, i am going to have a go next week Quote
Guest gritrash Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 spanner137 - i would be very interested to know how you get on. The wiring and stuff doesn't bother me, it's dealing with the airbag components when dismantling the steering wheel/column that does. Quote

You just take the top half of the steering column cover. 2 screws in the top. Once you have done that you remove the old stalk assembly and fit the cruise control one, the wires should already be there. Quote
Guest gritrash Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 thanks for that. I had seen the instructions, posted elswhere, detailing the retro-fit of cruise control to mkIV golf, and this seemed to involve fiddling with the airbag. I shall now go and investigate further... Quote
Guest spanner137 Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 fitted and working perfect, didnt need to touch airbag , just a case of swapping indicator assemblies and plugging in harness, A1 100% perfect Quote
Guest gritrash Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 spanner - so the indicator assembly comes off without removing the steering wheel? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 fitted and working perfect, didnt need to touch airbag , just a case of swapping indicator assemblies and plugging in harness, A1 100% perfect Did you have to get it turned on on the ECU? Some places say you do, others that it is on already. Quote
Guest spanner137 Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 yes. its so simple, i was expecting to have to look all over further down column for the spare plug but its already connected to the assembly just with no cruise to connect too. Quote

Guest Boggler Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Where did you get the switch? and how much? Ta in advance. :( Quote
Guest spanner137 Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 It was as simple as replacing indicator stalk1, take screws out of covers and remove2, take plugs out of assembly and remove3, Replace with new assembly4, enjoy cruise control This was done on a 2000 tdi Without onboard computer, if you have an onboard computer the website can supply a lead for 15.00 euros This is suppliers advert on ebay http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...&sort=3&rows=50 It was a case of deciphering pictures and translating some of the text on office xp Quote
Guest Boggler Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Is that where you got your switch from? I've been quoted Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I will be going here http://www.intapart.com very soon, I can have a look for you... Quote
Guest spanner137 Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 mine is a mark 1 which is about Quote
Guest Boggler Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Mine is also a Mark 1, think we're seeing the old disparity between Ford and VW prices again. For anybody thinking of it that quote of Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 I have a bathroom to fit tomorrow, if I get it finished before Friday lunchtime I will be going over Friday PM. As for emails, they are only interested in shipping out major components, if your email is about something other than that they do tend to go unanswered. Similarly if you phone to enquire about small parts they do not really want to know. Quote
