ACD1055 Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Hi All, I'm looking at purchasing a Gal but it doesn't have a handbook and I have never driven one before and on the text drive I'd like to test the CC to make sure all is well. Can anyone give me an idiot proof guide to how to use it etc. The Gal is an x reg Ghia if they have different systems? ThanksDave Quote
Mirez Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 1) Start car.2) Set CC switch (on top of stalk) to ON3) Achieve a speed of at least 25mph4) Press the SET button 5) CC should hold car at set speed unless you press the clutch, brake or move the switch to cancel.6) CC should speed up if SET is held7) CC should slow down if RESUME is held. 6/7 possibly vice versa :) Quote
ACD1055 Posted July 11, 2008 Author Report Posted July 11, 2008 Great thanks for this.. last few silly questions do I take my foot of the accelerator once CC is set to speed i.e. 30 mph? Also if I press on hold the button to speed up and slow down, does it accelerate or stop pretty fast as it would if I was to use the brake or accelerator pedal or would you recommend increasing speed using the accelerator pedal then pressing set again the same with braking? ACD1055 Posted July 11, 2008 Author Report Posted July 11, 2008 Hi, been speaking with a friend who has CC and he has explained it too me.. once the speed is set your foot can be removed and you can gradually increase / decrease speed using the +/- button if needed. Sounds good to me Quote
bj2004 Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 or you can use accelerator to overtake then remove foot speed will continue at last set Quote
Mirez Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Correct, the whole point is that you can remove your foot and the car will maintain the speed regardless! There is no automated braking when CC is active, it can speed up but can only naturally slow down so steep declines will probably need to be managed manually. Inclines should be dealt with automatically up to the limitation of the selected gear  Depressing the buttons should accelerate you reasonably briskly, not quite full throttle but still quickly - decelerating, as above, will take as long as it takes for the car to naturally loose its momentum. You can also accelerate manually and then hit the set button to keep the new speed, if you dont press set then the car will naturally slow back down the previously stored speed - usefull for overtaking! ACD1055 Posted July 11, 2008 Author Report Posted July 11, 2008 Mumof4... I will do.. I'm really looking forward to going back for a second look just hope the engine is in good condition if not it's back to searching. I'm a believer that everything happens for a reason I'll be back on this thread at 9am Monday morning hopefully with news that I'm a proud Gal owner.. Bye for now Quote
